VetsEZ is seeking a Data Modeler to support enterprise architecture and data syndication activities for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of data models that support the VAβs modernization of healthcare data systems. The ideal candidate has strong experience in data modeling, metadata management, and enterprise data architecture, and is skilled at translating complex clinical data into scalable, usable structures that support analytics, integration, and reporting.
The candidate must reside within the continental US.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement logical and physical data models to support enterprise-scale healthcare data integration, analytics, and reporting.
- Create and maintain dimensional and relational data models that support the syndication and distribution of VistA and Oracle Health data.
- Collaborate with data architects, engineers, and business stakeholders to translate business and clinical requirements into usable data structures.
- Support ongoing development of the VAβs EHR-focused data model, integrating data from legacy and modern systems into a unified, scalable design.
- Develop and maintain metadata definitions, data dictionaries, entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs), and source-to-target mappings.
- Evaluate and recommend data modeling and cataloging tools that align with VAβs enterprise architecture and technology strategy.
- Participate in data governance efforts and ensure alignment with federal standards, interoperability protocols, and privacy/security requirements.
- Document and maintain architecture design artifacts, including schemas, change logs, and design rationale.
- Provide support for data lineage tracking, access control structures, and integration of third-party or external data sources into the model.
- Contribute to the development of data modeling standards and best practices across the program.
- Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and ensure the success of the project.
Requirements:
- Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in data modeling, including logical, physical, and dimensional modeling.
- Proficiency with data modeling tools such as ERwin, ER/Studio, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of relational database concepts, metadata management, and normalization/denormalization techniques.
- Experience with SQL Server, Oracle, or other enterprise-class database systems.
- Ability to develop clear and maintainable data documentation including ERDs, dictionaries, and mappings.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience supporting VA programs or healthcare-related data systems.
- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms such as Azure Data Lake, Databricks, or Synapse.
- Understanding of healthcare data standards and terminologies (e.g., HL7, FHIR, LOINC, SNOMED CT).
- Experience working within Agile or SAFe environments.
- Certifications related to data architecture or data management (e.g., CDMP, DAMA, or equivalent).
