The role
FLiiP is looking for a Developer Manager to join their remote-first team in Canada. This is a hybrid role, ideally suited for a senior developer moving into leadership or an early-career manager looking to stay deeply involved in technical work.
The role is structured as 40% individual contribution and 60% people leadership. The selected candidate will work closely with the CTO and product team to scale a multi-tenant cloud platform built on PHP and React, while fostering an engineering culture rooted in ownership, experimentation, and high standards.
Key responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and support a small team of engineers with a focus on growth and performance.
Conduct regular 1:1s, career development planning, and performance evaluations.
Drive recruitment efforts and help onboard high-caliber technical talent.
Promote a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and high performance.
Enable cross-functional collaboration between engineering, product, and design teams.

Contribute directly to the codebase with hands-on development using the PHP/React stack.
Design and implement scalable, maintainable solutions for a multi-tenant architecture.
Lead architectural discussions and set high engineering standards.
Optimize performance, infrastructure, and data pipelines for maximum business impact.
Champion the integration of AI and automation in all aspects of the development lifecycle.
Translate product and business needs into robust technical solutions.
Engineering culture & processes
Define and continuously improve engineering workflows, deployment processes, and code review standards.
Promote data-driven decision-making and measurable technical outcomes.
Encourage a mindset of ownership, accountability, and user-centric development.
Candidate profile
Required skills & experience:
5+ years of experience in software engineering, with strong proficiency in PHP and React.
1 to 3 years in a technical leadership/ mentorshipΒ or engineering management role.
Proven experience building and scaling web applications, ideally within a SaaS environment.
Deep understanding of multi-tenant architectures, cloud infrastructure, and database design.
Fluent in English, professional working proficiency in French.
Startup-ready mindset: comfortable with fast-paced, evolving environments.
Familiarity with AI tooling and a strong interest in integrating AI into workflows.
Data-oriented β focused on delivering measurable impact.
Nice to have:
Experience with infrastructure, DevOps, or cloud-native platforms.
A successful track record of hiring and mentoring engineers.
Experience managing the IC/Manager balance.
Familiarity with agile methodologies and modern development practices.
