Working as part of a cross-functional team, you will have a great impact on Penumbra getting our products out to patients who need them. As a Distribution Manager, you will be working to Increase sales and customer satisfaction within your region. You will be responsible for overseeing and managing the distribution network within your assigned territory. This includes developing and implementing distribution strategies, maintaining strong relationships with distributors, ensuring efficient and effective distribution operations, and achieving sales and distribution targets. The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of key distributors and competitors within their assigned territory.
What You’ll Work On
Distribution Strategy Development:
• Develop and implement distribution strategies to optimize the distribution network.
• Identify and evaluate potential distributors to expand the network.
• Monitor market trends and adjust strategies to ensure competitiveness.
Relationship Management:
• Build and maintain strong relationships with distributors.
• Act as the primary point of contact for distributors, addressing their needs and concerns.
• Conduct regular meetings and business reviews with distributors.
• Develop relationships with existing hospitals, labs, and customers
• Prospect and develop relationships with prospective customers and/or users of Penumbra products, converting them to Penumbra customers
• Secure and/or renew existing orders by coordinating product availability, delivery dates, and inventory levels
• Maintain open communication lines with current and prospective customers on programs, promotions, and pricing trends
• Increase account penetration with orders for new and existing line of products and services
• Develop relationships with physicians, lab staff, lab supervisors, and purchasing personnel
Performance Monitoring:
• Set distribution targets and monitor the performance of distributors.
• Analyze sales and distribution data to identify areas for improvement.
• Implement corrective actions to address performance issues.
Operational Efficiency:
• Ensure efficient and cost-effective distribution operations.
• Optimize inventory management and logistics processes.
• Coordinate with internal teams to ensure seamless distribution activities.
Sales Support:
• Support the sales team in achieving sales targets through effective distribution.
• Provide training and support to distributors to enhance their sales capabilities.
• Collaborate with marketing teams to develop promotional strategies for distributors.
Reporting and Analysis:
• Prepare regular reports on distribution performance and market trends.
• Conduct market analysis to identify opportunities for growth.
• Provide insights and recommendations to senior management.
Professional Development:
• Keep current on Penumbra new products or services being offered and give feedback to the corporate office on market receptivity, concerns or issues learned from the customers
• Maintain an ongoing knowledge of competitive product innovations, sales promotions, catalogs and advertising for personal sales effectiveness and corporate market intelligence
• Attend industry trade shows as assigned, responsible for show follow up, including a summary report to sales and marketing management, turning in orders, communicating problems for internal follow up, getting leads and sending appropriate follow-up correspondence
What You Contribute
• A Bachelor’s degree in related field with 5+ years of experience, including 3+ years of medical device sales experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech, or other regulated industry experience desired
• Sales or marketing experience desired
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize assignments while handling various projects simultaneously
Working Conditions
General office, laboratory, cleanroom, and hospital environments. Willingness and ability to work on site. May have business travel from 50% - 75%. Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials Requires some lifting and moving of up to 25 pounds. Ability to wear 7-9 pounds of lead for extended periods of time. Occasional on-call availability required 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Must be able to move between buildings and floors. Must be able to remain stationary and use a computer or other standard office. equipment, such as a printer or copy machine, for an extensive period of time each day. Must be able to read, prepare emails, and produce documents and spreadsheets. Must be able to move within the office and access file cabinets or supplies, as needed. Must be able to communicate and exchange accurate information with employees at all levels on a daily basis.
