Job description

About our Company:

LemFi (YC S21, Series B) is revolutionizing cross-border financial services for immigrants through its multi-currency platform, processing over $1 billion in monthly transactions. We provide instant remittances, foreign exchange services, and multi-currency accounts, all in one seamless experience.

With 300+ employees across 15+ countries, our platform supports twelve currencies and integrates directly with local banks and mobile money providers, ensuring fast, low-cost transactions. But we’re not stopping at payments. LemFi is building a comprehensive financial ecosystem empowering immigrants with the financial tools they need to thrive—wherever they go.

Our vision: To build the first full-stack financial services hub for the world’s immigrant population. 🚀

Who You Are:

Join a fast-paced, multinational fintech startup where collaboration, humility, and ownership define how we work. At LemFi, we’re passionate about solving complex challenges while delivering an exceptional customer experience across borders. Our teams are deeply committed to their craft and regularly contribute beyond their core responsibilities to help each other succeed.

You’ll work at the heart of LemFi’s Remittance Platform, which processes tens of millions of cross-border transactions each month. Your work will span a diverse set of goals from expanding into new geographies to combating fraud and optimizing the performance and success rates of money transfers. The impact is real: you’ll help improve the lives of immigrants around the world who rely on LemFi to send money home safely and efficiently.

  • Impact-Driven: You prioritize meaningful outcomes over technical output. You focus on delivering measurable business and user value, always aiming to maximize the impact of your work.
  • Technically Hands-On: You bring deep experience in building scalable, distributed systems using Go Lang or Java. You know how robust, production-grade code looks and bring strong judgment to architecture, system design, and observability.
  • Influential Without Authority: You’ve successfully guided technical direction across multiple teams or functions, aligning stakeholders and driving momentum through influence, mentorship, and example not just org charts.
  • Strategic Collaborator: You’re equally comfortable reviewing pull requests or partnering with senior product and business leaders. You proactively identify opportunities to improve both the product and the way it’s built.
  • Growth-Oriented: You’re naturally curious and eager to learn, especially in areas beyond your current expertise whether that’s machine learning, mobile, or emerging technologies. You embrace learning as a path to expanding your impact.
  • Builder at Heart: You take a pragmatic, hands-on approach to solving problems. You enjoy getting deep into the stack to understand the trade-offs, remove blockers, and deliver solutions that move the team forward.
  • AI-Native Mindset: You’re actively exploring how AI can enhance engineering productivity, from streamlining tasks to unlocking new approaches to problem-solving. Whether you’re already experienced or rapidly learning, you embrace the opportunity to work smarter and stay ahead.

Job Description & Responsibilities:

  • Drive architectural and technical strategy in your product squad, making scalable, well-informed decisions and guiding them from concept to production.
  • Establish and uphold the benchmark for technical quality spanning design, implementation, testing, reliability, and scalability across the engineering organization.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across Product, Data and Growth to align technical direction with broader company priorities.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to engineers and technical leads, supporting their growth in both technical capability and leadership.
  • Amplify team effectiveness by bringing clarity to ambiguous challenges, removing blockers, and enabling sound decision making through strong technical insight and clear communication.
  • Shape and evolve company-wide engineering standards, continuously identifying ways to improve tooling, processes, and practices for long-term impact.
  • Take line management responsibility to conduct regular 1:1s and shape engineers growth paths validated by performance reviews.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional experience in software engineering with a strong focus on scalable, production-ready systems.
  • Deep expertise in backend technologies, including hands-on experience with Go Lang or Java for building distributed services.
  • Proven track record of driving technical excellence in observability covering logging, metrics, and distributed tracing.
  • Skilled in designing, building, and evolving RESTful APIs, with a focus on long-term maintainability and backward compatibility.
  • Practical application of Domain-Driven Design and modular architecture to manage complexity and improve codebase clarity.
  • Experience with asynchronous processing patterns such as coroutines, message queues, and event streaming with Kafka.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL), including schema evolution, query optimization, and transaction handling.
  • Solid grasp of secure coding practices, with awareness of OWASP and other industry standards.
  • Hands-on experience using container technologies (e.g., Docker) throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Advocates for pragmatic, shift-left test automation practices to ensure reliability and speed.
  • Ability to translate product and business requirements into AWS-based architectures, balancing security, cost-efficiency, and simplicity.
  • Previous team leading experience as an Engineering Manager or Delivery Lead.
  • Leading with empathy, but delivering honest feedback without compromising growth.
  • Process oriented mindset. Track record of introducing and automating processes improving delivery and product KPIs.

Nice to Haves:

  • Previous experience in financial technology or banking domain
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject
  • Location- United Kingdom or Latvia
