What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that’s all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you’ll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

As the Engineering Manager for the Cloud Enablement Team, you will lead and support a high-impact group of 5 engineers (with opportunity to scale), focused on embedding cost efficiency and compliance into Canva’s infrastructure foundations. Your leadership will be essential in guiding the team’s strategic direction, enabling developer-friendly governance, and building systems that scale securely and sustainably.

The team’s mission is clear: ensure our cloud footprint is continuously compliant and cost-optimised - without slowing down innovation. From driving platform-wide efficiency programs to automating compliance by design, your team plays a critical role in Canva’s ability to scale responsibly.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Leading a high-impact team focused on cloud cost optimisation and compliance at scale.
  • Guiding strategic direction across FinOps, compliance automation and cloud landing zones.
  • Partnering with security, finance, and platform teams to drive data-informed governance.
  • Supporting operational excellence while delivering business outcomes that scale.
  • Developing high performers and growing the team’s capabilities for Canva’s future needs.
  • Advocating for governance as an enabler - not a blocker - for innovation.

  • You understand cloud cost optimisation and compliance (especially in AWS & GCP).

  • You love making governance invisible, scalable, and developer-friendly.

About the team

The Cloud Enablement team sits within the Engineering Governance subgroup. Our mission is to enable secure, compliant, and cost-efficient engineering - without slowing anyone down.

We focus on zero-touch production access, compliance by design, cost visibility, and strategic savings. We aim to inject the right information into engineers workflows so they can move fast and responsibly. We believe governance should work for teams, not against them.
