What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that’s all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you’ll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

As the Engineering Team Lead for Content Enrichment, you’ll coach a team of talented and high performing bunch of backend engineers and machine learning engineers working across search enrichment pipelines, metadata automation, and scalable microservices. You’ll define the team’s vision and guide strategic delivery aligned with Canva’s goals. You’ll collaborate closely with content experts, product managers, and machine learning teams to create infrastructure that makes billions of assets more discoverable and usable every day.

This role will see you:

  • Lead and support backend and machine learning engineers driving our content enrichment platforms.

  • Shape the team’s vision, strategy, and technical architecture to scale with Canva’s content growth.

  • Coach and mentor engineers to do the best work of their lives.

  • Collaborate across content and product teams to deliver impactful, user-facing solutions.

  • Embed a culture of operational excellence and continuous technical innovation.

  • Represent your team across supergroup forums and strategic initiatives.

You’re probably a match if

  • You bring deep engineering expertise, ideally with experience in microservices, search, or content systems.

  • You’re experienced in designing systems at scale, with a focus on reliability, performance, and extensibility.

  • You collaborate cross-functionally and thrive in partnerships with product, ML, and content stakeholders.

  • You think strategically and deliver pragmatically, balancing long-term vision with immediate needs.

  • You value diversity, empathy, and inclusion, and lead in a way that fosters belonging and trust.

About the team

We’re part of the Content Group in the Content & Discovery Supergroup. Our group crafts and scales the building blocks of Canva’s extensive content library – empowering every user to find the perfect content for their design. The Content Enrichment team is focused on elevating the quality, relevance, and classification of Canva’s media through automation, intelligent tagging, and platform integrations. Our work fuels the discovery engine of Canva and has a direct impact on user satisfaction and engagement.
