About the Team
Hi, I’m Jon Frost, Principal Frontend Engineer at Hawk-Eye Innovations.
We’re looking for a Freelance Frontend Engineer to join our Data Engineering Team, where we build data-rich, highly interactive UI platforms used across the world of sport — from behind-the-scenes tools for analysts to fan-facing visualisations.
Our frontend work powers live match data, historic insights, and streaming overlays seen by millions. This role offers the chance to contribute to systems that blend high performance, sleek design, and real-time interactivity.
The products we are building provide live event logging in sports matches, data visualisation for coaches and video analysis for officials.
What You’ll Be Doing
Designing and building interactive UIs using React and TypeScript
Turning complex sports data into clean, usable experiences
Working closely with backend, design, and data teams to ship features
Scoping, estimating, and managing your own tasks using Jira
Contributing to UI architecture, performance optimisation, and release workflows
Writing clean, testable code with a focus on maintainability and clarity
Collaborating with our Principal and Lead Engineers on frontend best practices
Key Responsibilities
Scoping and managing project tasks from requirements
Identifying and managing dependencies within a project — across disciplines and external teams
Managing code releases across environments (Dev, Test, Staging, Prod)
Writing high-quality code that is functional, maintainable, and easy for others to extend
Taking pride in the detail and finish of the final product, and encouraging the same from others
Communicating clearly and regularly to ensure the right solutions are being built
Continuously developing your own technical expertise and staying up to date with best practices
Sharing ideas, tools, and techniques to support the growth and knowledge of the wider team
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Strong experience with TypeScript and React
Solid understanding of backend integration with APIs and websockets
Familiarity with Cypress or other automated testing frameworks
Proficient in HTML and CSS — with an eye for layout and detail
Confident with browser and device testing, including debugging workflows
Experience working with JSON data structures and consuming APIs (GET/POST)
Good command of responsive web design and web performance optimisation
Effective npm dependency management
Comfortable using Git for version control and clean code practices
Experience using Jira for task and ticket management
Bonus Points For
Node.js / AWS experience or comfort working full-stack
Passion for sport, data visualisation, or interactive tech
Familiarity with performance profiling and Lighthouse
Experience working in broadcast, sports tech, or time-sensitive UI systems
