Location: Hybrid – mostly home-based, preference to be commutable to London (in-person meetings in London, Salisbury or Thornhill)

Contract: Full time, six-month fixed-term (with possibility to extend)

The HALO Trust is the world’s largest and oldest international humanitarian mine action charity. Our mission is to save lives and restore livelihoods for those affected by conflict. HALO is known for its work to clear landmines and the disposal of other explosive hazards such as bombs, rockets, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The charity was established in Afghanistan in 1988 and now employs over 11,000 staff across 30 countries and territories.

We are seeking to fill a paid internship position with a highly motivated and proactive graduate or student able to provide support to the Operations Group. Reporting directly to the Operations Chief of Staff, the successful candidate will play a key role in enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of our global operations. This internship offers invaluable exposure to the core functions of our Chief Operating Officer and regional leadership teams, supporting their work across dynamic environments. The role will provide you with the opportunity to gain a hands-on experience across a diverse range of specialised departments within the Operations Group at The HALO Trust. Once you have established the work you find most rewarding, there will be scope to focus and take ownership of tasks in relation to your interests.

The role will initially be a six-month fixed-term contract, with a strong likelihood of a further six-month extension. HALO’s working hours are Monday to Thursday 08:30-1730, Fridays 08:30-15:00. The position is hybrid, mostly working remotely with occasional visits to the London, Salisbury and Thornhill offices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the overall running of the Operations Group with a range of administrative tasks, such as minute taking, diary management, data analysis and action tracking.

  • Support with the organisation and coordination of important Operations Group events, such as the monthly Operations Group meeting, the in-person quarterly Operations Group Leadership Meeting, the Programme Managers Meeting, and the Operation Managers Meeting.

  • Ensuring the internal intranet is up to date with relevant documents, news posts, and policy developments.

  • Coordinate the collation and distribution of the programmes quarterly situation reports.

  • Conduct research and write short reports e.g. on funding opportunities, programme development opportunities.

  • To provide administration support to the Global Security Advisor.

  • Directly assist wider teams within the HALO Operations Group, including the Director of Transformation, Director of Information Systems, and Regional Directors. Tasks can range from conducting research, concept notes, proposals, and reports, to monitoring our internal systems and databases.

  • Support the Operations Chief of Staff and Chief Operating Officer with ad hoc tasks as required.

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Be highly organised and adaptive

  • Ability to take initiative

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

  • Ability to collect, store and analyse data.

  • A keen understanding of a variety of writing and communication styles appropriate for speaking to different stakeholders including different groups of HALO staff and external partners.

  • Must be open to working with all departments within the Operations Group and beyond as and when required.

  • Paid hourly salary at the minimum wage for your age.
