Job description

We are seeking a highly experienced ‘multi skilled’ Lead Cloud Data Architect & DBA – AWS to oversee the management, performance, and strategic direction of our cloud-based database infrastructure supporting mission-critical online payment systems. This role requires deep technical expertise in AWS-native databases—specifically DynamoDB, RDS PostgreSQL, and MongoDB—as well as a strong command of data architecture, governance, and operational best practices, across our OLTP systems.

In addition to hands-on database responsibilities,the Lead DBA will serve as a technical leader/manager and mentorfor a smallteam of data engineers, collaborating closely with application developers, DevOps, and cybersecurity teams to ensure secure, scalable, and ecient data operations. The ideal candidate brings both tactical execution skills and strategic vision for evolving our data platforms in a fast-paced, high-availability environment.

Key Responsibilities:

How will you make a dierence, You’re our perfect candidate if you:

  • Manage and optimize the performance, availability, and scalability of databases in AWS, including DynamoDB, RDS PostgreSQL, MongoDB and OpenSearch.

  • Implement and maintain backup,recovery, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) strategies for all managed databases.

  • Monitor database performance and proactively address issues related to latency, throughput, and resource consumption.

  • Define and evolve the data architecture to supportrobust, secure, and scalable storage patterns across multiple AWS database services. And as they relate to Payments and ourtotal ecosystem

  • Enforce and evolve data governance policies, including data classification, lineage, and access controls.

  • Ensure alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements for data privacy, integrity, and retention.

  • Lead, manage and mentor a small team of data engineers, promoting continuous learning, collaboration, and high performance.

  • Delegate operationaltasks and support development eorts to balance the team’s workload and improve delivery velocity.

  • Conductregular code and solution architecture reviews, and foster a culture of accountability and technical excellence.

  • Collaborate with software engineers, DevOps, product owners, and security teams to ensure database solutions meet application requirements.

  • Act as the data subject matter expert (SME)in cross-functional initiatives, including platform modernization and payment system enhancements. System observability and bestin class APM standards

  • Communicate database performance metrics, risks, and improvement plans to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Implement database security best practices including encryption, IAM policies, role-based access control, and auditlogging.

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external standards such as PCI DSS for online payment systems.

Your expertise in a nutshell:

  • You have a minimum of 6 years experience leading teams within a database team & software development / implementation environments
  • Proven and demonstrable experience with AWS Cloud Database technologies across DynamoDB, Aurora RDS (Postgres), and MongoDB (Atlas Cloud)is required.
  • Experience in Observability techniques, standards and tools relating to bestin class system monitoring and alerting.
  • You have aBachelor’s or Master’s in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics or related field.
  • Previous experience and knowledge within the online payments industry is highly appreciated.
  • You are able to utilize and understand and multiple sources of data to drive expected return on chasing and identify trends and actions to mitigate negatively trending KPIs
  • Well-rounded background to balance the line between tech and business is highly recommended.
  • The ability to speak and write fluently in English is required. A good understanding of Spanish is a plus.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate confidently at C-levels.
  • Attention to detail, organizational and analytical skills and ability to prioritize multiple concurrent projects while still delivering timely and accurate results.
  • Experience with integration projects within a large global company working in professional services, payments or generaltechnology
  • A proven track record of helping to driving change, using data to make informed decisions on setting up tools and procedures
  • Working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure an eective alignment with business and clients’ needs.
