As a Senior Applied Scientist on the Commerce AI team at Coveo, you will be tasked with building the language technology solutions and other machine learning technologies that power the future of our Search and Personalization products for shoppers and merchandisers.
You’ll play a technical leadership role to help influence and guide our ambitious AI technological vision of bringing cutting-edge advancements into production to a wide range of enterprise commerce clients by collaborating closely with other Applied Scientists, ML Developers, and Product Managers to leverage LLMs and other state-of-the-art Generative AI techniques.

The ML unit at Coveo focuses on researching applications of the latest advances in Recommender Systems, Ranking Optimization, LLMs and NLP to build innovative solutions in e-commerce, self-service and other business verticals.
We solve real problems with real data, for hundreds of large enterprise clients all around the world, on a modern platform that serves over 100M requests and automatically trains thousands of ML models on a daily basis.
Here is a glimpse at your responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development and optimization of existing and new ML solutions in Commerce including Semantic Search and Query Understanding, Generative Answering and Personalized Query Suggestions.
- Develop novel approaches to extract, generate, and validate product attributes using multimodal AI, combining text, image and structured data.
- Initiate and facilitate the adoption and utilization of resources and guidelines to improve quality and operational efficiency of the scientific ML lifecycle.
- Work with Product Managers to define scope, determine feasibility, and translate business objectives into technical requirements.
- Engage with your community of peers to challenge the status quo, improve our shared ways of working, and influence overall architecture decisions, continuing to foster our culture of Applied Science excellence.
- Be a mentor to your teammates: Help them hone their skills and support their development as applied scientists.
Here is what will qualify you for the role:
- 5+ years of applied research industry experience building and improving real-world solutions based on modern ML and NLP techniques, including Deep Learning and LLMs, at a non-trivial scale, along with a PhD or MSc in a relevant discipline (ML, CS, Math, Physics).
- Proven ability to explore and design models, systems and solutions and implement them via production-grade code that is systematically evaluated, well-tested and easy to maintain.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams, collaborating with other scientists and developers on a daily basis throughout the development lifecycle.
Here is what will make you stand out:
- Experience in a leadership role: Mentoring and coaching, hiring, vision and roadmap design, scientific project planning and management, etc.
- Deep expertise in a particularly relevant areas to Coveo business: Ranking and Recommendations, Information Retrieval and Neural Search (including Semantic Search and Question-Answering) and Information Extraction.
- Experience in experimentation and measurement of product user engagement and business impact preferably in a transactional domain i.e. Ecommerce
- International Work Experience: You lived through the challenges of cultural differences and it rewarded you with a more open-minded approach to communication and collaboration.
