Senior Backend Engineer - PerfectScale by DoiT
Location
Our Senior Backend Engineer will be an integral part of our Engineering teams in EMEA. This role is based remotely as a full-time employee in the UK, Ireland, Estonia, Netherlands, Sweden and Spain. We are also open to contractors in East Europe and Portugal.

The Opportunity
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in building and evolving the core backend systems that power PerfectScale’s data platform and business logic. You’ll collaborate closely with product managers and cross-functional engineering teams to design scalable systems and contribute to impactful product decisions. This is a unique opportunity to influence how data-driven insights are delivered at scale while working on a modern cloud-native stack.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product, devops, backend and frontend engineers to deliver elegant and well thought out solutions for complex problems
- Implementing features. From the proposal through design and implementation to maintenance. You’re expected to propose things that you think can be an excellent addition to the products
- Write clean and maintainable code using engineering best practices, you will also ensure clean code and best practices while performing code reviews for your peers
- Improving the health of the codebase. We’re mindful of accumulating technical debt. We dedicate one day per week to housekeeping
- Providing feedback. The team plans and discusses the upcoming work. We provide feedback to each other, trying to find challenges and unknowns as early as possible
Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- 6+ years of backend development experience (Go / Java / Rust / Python)
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Golang in a production environment
- Experience building and scaling distributed systems and data pipelines
- Solid understanding of relational and non-relational databases; PostgreSQL experience is a plus
- Proven experience developing SaaS products in microservice architectures
- Hands-on experience with containers and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tooling: CI/CD, GitOps, K8s, Docker
- Strong system design skills and a passion for building resilient, high-scale services
- Comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment; proactive and adaptable
- Self-motivated, organized, and outcome-focused
Bonus Points
- Production experience with Kubernetes at scale
- Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Exposure to data engineering practices and tools (streaming, batch processing, Spark, Trino, Iceberg, ClickHouse, Parquet)
- Understanding of performance considerations in large-scale systems
