Job description
About Us
Komoju is Japan’s leading payment infrastructure for global digital businesses. We support companies from startups to global giants in delivering seamless payments to users across Japan and beyond.
We operate at the intersection of tech, compliance, and user experience — with a team that’s multicultural, remote-friendly, and growing fast.
As we expand, we’re hiring a Senior HR Business Partner who’s not just a people person — but a business partner with backbone. Someone who can own the people agenda end-to-end, and build the culture, systems, and trust needed for our next phase.
What You’ll Own
This is not an HR generalist role.
This is a mission-critical leadership role.
You’ll be expected to:
Take full ownership of our HR practices to evolve the design of our people agenda - from strategy to hands-on execution - as a competitive differentiator in the market.
Shape and implement performance management, manager coaching, compensation philosophy, and more.
Partner with senior leaders across Engineering, Product, Sales, G&A to design teams, define capabilities, and develop talent.
Build and nurture employee engagement, retention, and internal mobility frameworks.
Be the go-to person for leadership when it comes to people, conflict, succession, or change.
Identify structural and behavioral blockers to scale — and act. Fast.
Has 7+ years of senior HRBP or People Partnering experience in growth-stage organizations
Has worked directly with C-levels, not as a note-taker, but as a business partner
Knows Japan’s HR landscape deeply, but is not held back by “how things have always been”
Can influence high-context, high-standard tech teams while holding your own in ambiguity
Writes and speaks fluently in both Japanese and English
Is strategic in thinking, tactical in action, and grounded in business outcomes.
Nice to Haves
- Experience scaling HR systems (e.g., from 100 to 300 people orgs)
- Experience with hybrid/remote teams and multicultural orgs
- Hands-on business experience (e.g., sales, product, or operations)
- MBA or entrepreneurial experience or having founded/co-founded a business
Why Komoju
You’ll take the helm of a high-impact HR domain — with the mandate, trust, and clarity to lead, not follow
You’ll shape how a modern Japanese tech company scales — from the inside out
You’ll work in a bilingual, diverse, and high-caliber environment
You’ll have influence, trust, and room to build
At Degica, we embrace remote work while also offering office space for those who prefer in-person collaboration
10 days regular vacation, additional 5 days summer and 5 days winter vacation
Paid birthday holiday
Budget for self-learning allowance, to ensure our employees’ skills remain current
Language training for Japanese OR English
