The team:

Our Software Engineering team is pivotal to Jobber’s success, creating software that adds value to tens of thousands of users worldwide. We believe in perpetual growth and learning, providing continuous 1:1 support, feedback from managers and our Talent Development team, and nurturing your innate curiosity.

As a part of our Cloud Infrastructure Team, you’ll play a critical role in empowering our product development teams, ensuring the safe release of software, and maintaining top-tier application performance and stability. Jobber mainly uses ECS/Fargate in its cloud environment (AWS).

Your part in the SRE Team, a.k.a. the “McCloud Team”, will include daily collaboration by participating in paired programming sessions, regular zoom meetings and slack conversations, to ensure teams are aligned, informed and prepared for what is next. In 2025, the team plans to split duties of McCloud into the core team(working closely with SRE peers and McCloud initiatives) and the streaming team (more cross team collaboration and requirements gathering work).  In this role, you will be expected to leverage AI tools to augment your capabilities while maintaining engineering judgment and standards.. You’ll work closely with your peers to mentor others and build relationships, ensuring that everyone understands how their role impacts others Jobber wide. We all lean on our leadership skills on the McCloud Team to drive results.

The role:

Reporting to the Manager, Production Engineering, the Senior Site Reliability Engineer will collaborate with the cloud infrastructure team to build and maintain a cutting-edge product that supports the success of our customers and their small businesses. Your mission will involve tackling challenges faced by millions of entrepreneurs and crafting solutions to uphold the availability and responsiveness of our infrastructure.

The Senior Site Reliability Engineer will:

  • Collaborate on the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of our AWS infrastructure, leveraging Infrastructure-as-Code principles.
  • Developing and maintaining local tooling for development and observability tools, including deployment tools and interfaces into AWS, CircleCI, and other infrastructure components.
  • Active participation in our on-call rotation, actively contributing to the enhancement of the on-call experience for the team.

To be successful, you should have:

  • Demonstrated expertise in providing systems support within a cloud environment, preferably AWS and its various services. Some Azure Cloud skillset will be handy too!
  • Experience with IaC using Terraform .
  • Experience optimizing and improving continuous deployment performance.
  • The ability to juggle multiple projects and incident management.
  • Relevant experience in programming languages such as Ruby, Python, or Bash.
  • A deep passion for learning, reliability, automation, orchestration, and continuous improvement.
  • A strong commitment to problem-solving and a keen interest in technology.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with cross-functional teams even in challenging high-pressure situations.
  • Sought out and learned the most effective practices and tools to hone your craft, including how to effectively incorporate AI, even if it isn’t broadly adopted in your current company.

Highly Desired:

  • Experience supporting  Ruby on Rails, GQL, React applications in a production environment
  • Experience with security, scalability and observability
  • Kubernetes experience (we are moving the team in that direction)

At Jobber, we believe that compensation should be transparent, fair, and supportive of your experience and growth. This role has a minimum annual salary of $145,900 CAD, a midpoint of $171,600 CAD, and a maximum salary of $197,400 CAD designed to reflect the progression from learning the ropes to truly excelling. We design our compensation to reflect each new hire’s skills, experience, and the complexity of the role, ensuring a fair and competitive salary. Our range is intentionally broad to support growth and long-term impact, with fully established hires typically starting around the midpoint. The higher end of the range is reserved for those who have demonstrated deep expertise and lasting contributions, while offers below the midpoint reflect strong potential with room to develop. This approach ensures that compensation aligns with both an individual’s current capabilities and their opportunity for future growth. Base salary is just one part of a total compensation package that will include equity rewards, annual stipends for health and wellness, retirement savings matching, and an extended health package with fully paid premiums for body and mind.
