Join Benesch, a growing planning, engineering, and professional services firm, as a Structural Project Engineer in our Illinois division. This role involves complex projects in the Chicago office, collaborating with professionals on bridge structure analysis, inspection, load rating, and design.
Requirements
- B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required
- MS in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis or related discipline preferred
- PE License preferred
- SE License in Illinois or ability and plan to obtain
- Minimum of 5 years of bridge inspection, analysis, load rating and/or design experience
- Successful completion of one or more of the following FHWA-NHI courses is preferred but not required
- Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges
- Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges
- Experience working with IDOT, CDOT, ISTHA and/or Chicagoland local agencies preferred
- Strong communication and client relation skills
- Progressive experience with developing design drawings and utilizing MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
- Strong organization and leadership skills with a track record for adhering to design budgets and schedules
- Ability to perform complex analysis and design
- Ability to assemble a complete design package for assigned elements or projects
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review structural and geometric calculations for bridge rehabilitation and design projects
- Prepare and review finite element analysis models
- Prepare and review bridge load rating reports to DOT standards
- Prepare, compile and review plans, specifications, cost estimates and pay items in accordance with DOT standards
- Assume responsibility for assigned design calculation files and plans, assuring adequate independent QC reviews on that work
- Coordinate the above tasks with the Project/ Technical Manager
