Summary

Join Benesch, a growing planning, engineering, and professional services firm, as a Structural Project Engineer in our Illinois division. This role involves complex projects in the Chicago office, collaborating with professionals on bridge structure analysis, inspection, load rating, and design.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required
  • MS in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis or related discipline preferred
  • PE License preferred
  • SE License in Illinois or ability and plan to obtain
  • Minimum of 5 years of bridge inspection, analysis, load rating and/or design experience
  • Successful completion of one or more of the following FHWA-NHI courses is preferred but not required
  • Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges
  • Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges
  • Experience working with IDOT, CDOT, ISTHA and/or Chicagoland local agencies preferred
  • Strong communication and client relation skills
  • Progressive experience with developing design drawings and utilizing MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Strong organization and leadership skills with a track record for adhering to design budgets and schedules
  • Ability to perform complex analysis and design
  • Ability to assemble a complete design package for assigned elements or projects
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review structural and geometric calculations for bridge rehabilitation and design projects
  • Prepare and review finite element analysis models
  • Prepare and review bridge load rating reports to DOT standards
  • Prepare, compile and review plans, specifications, cost estimates and pay items in accordance with DOT standards
  • Assume responsibility for assigned design calculation files and plans, assuring adequate independent QC reviews on that work
  • Coordinate the above tasks with the Project/ Technical Manager
