MiaPrep Online High School (MOHS) is our online high school for students grades 7-12. Formed in 2022 and accredited in 2023, we’ve grown from 80 students our first year to over 530 in 2025! Miaplaza’s leadership aims to continue this high-growth trajectory, with a goal of serving 10,000+ students in the next 5-10 years! 🚀
We’re seeking a passionate and resourceful Student Advisor to join our team. This is a fully remote role with a combination of synchronous and asynchronous responsibilities that emphasize building positive student relationships, coaching student growth, monitoring progress, and managing records and data. Advisors also maintain a secondary role in engagement, teaching, or administrative duties depending on their expertise and background. As a MOHS Student Advisor, you will be integral in shaping the community for our students, parents, teachers, and staff.
A Day in the Role:
Serve as the daily point of contact for assigned students, addressing their academic concerns and supporting their growth toward graduation and adulthood
Lead daily orientation classes via video conference with new students
Maintain a secondary core role in engagement, teaching, or administrative duties to support the school while not advising
Conduct frequent advising meetings via video conference to review academic progress, set goals, and provide guidance on educational and career plans
Monitor progress of students between advising calls to identify potential indicators of struggle or need for support, and then provide resources and coaching as appropriate
Maintain detailed records of student interactions, advising sessions, and communications
Work in concert with Student Support Specialists, Academic Counselors, and teachers to target students for intervention, identifying the most effective strategies for each student
Partner with the Engagement Coordinator to investigate, experiment, and initiate student engagement opportunities
Engage with students in online social spaces, clubs, and events, fostering a safe and supportive online community
Participate in regular meetings with other MOHS staff and faculty members to discuss student advising and engagement strategies
Act as a liaison between students, families, and school administration to ensure clear and effective communication
Recommend possible changes to MOHS policies, services, or processes to administration as needed
Schedule
MOHS Advisors are expected to have 40 hours of availability each week on a year-round basis.
Availability during school hours, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4 pm in a U.S. timezone (ET, CT, MT, or PT) is required.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education or related field
At least 2 years of full-time experience in a student-facing role
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently in a remote setting
Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
Tech-savvy with an ability to learn new platforms quickly, such as gradebooks, Google Classroom, curriculum platforms, and Google Workspace
Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) responsible use of AI tools to increase efficiency in the education sector
The ideal candidate brings:
Middle school experience
Online advising experience
Teaching experience in any discipline
Familiarity with homeschool communities
Compensation & Benefits
The expected starting pay range is $26.00 - $32.00 per hour. Student Advisors at MiaPrep Online High School work an average of 40 hours per week. When working year-round, this can equate to an annual pay range of $54,080 - $66,560.
Miaplaza’s compensation philosophy ensures equity and competitiveness while considering the regional differences in living and labor costs. Specific rates will be provided during the hiring process and are aligned with market data and internal equity.
Compensation is evaluated twice per year, based on performance.

PTO is all-purpose time off, and combines traditional vacation and paid sick leave plans into one flexible, inclusive policy. Eligible employees can use PTO for all kinds of absences including: vacation, holidays, illness, injury, family leave, and other personal business. Full-time employees receive 16 hours of floating holiday PTO per quarter and accumulate additional PTO at the rate of 1 hour per every 17 hours worked. Annually, this amounts to approximately 122 hours per year or 15 eight-hour days on average.
