Job description

Waabi, founded by AI pioneer and visionary Raquel Urtasun, is an AI company building the next generation of self-driving technology. With a world class team and an innovative approach that unleashes the power of AI to “drive” safely in the real world, Waabi is bringing the promise of self-driving closer to commercialization than ever before. Waabi is backed by best-in-class investors across the technology, logistics and the Canadian innovation ecosystem.

With offices in Toronto, San Francisco, and Dallas, Waabi is growing quickly and looking for diverse, innovative and collaborative candidates who want to impact the world in a positive way. To learn more visit: www.waabi.ai

At Waabi we develop an autonomous trucking solution that is able to learn safe and effective driving behaviors within our highly realistic simulator. One key aspect to enable this is the ability to measure the quality of driving behaviors from early conflicts all the way to collision severities in an efficient manner. As a triage analyst you will evaluate the driving behaviors in simulation, closed course testing and public roads operation and determine ways to communicate your findings effectively to all of Waabi including thorough documentation. At the same time you will support the creation of comprehensive scenario sets that are used during development and as part of the safety case for driverless autonomy operation.

Given our novel approach to self-driving technology, you will work on groundbreaking new methods that are highly automated and self-maintaining by leveraging generative AI. You will influence the design of highly automated tools to validate product and system requirements across all testing modalities. Having a good understanding of how trucks work and are operated will also be required to be successful in this role. And finally, contributing to our very collaborative remote first work environment by working closely with colleagues from other areas as well as continuously growing, improving and sharing your own skills will enable you to have a very strong impact at Waabi.

You will…

- Execute the review process for a driverless system including discovering issues, reporting to the appropriate owners and coordinating resolutions through excellent root cause analysis.

- Act as a liaison between the Systems Engineering team and the autonomy software development teams to drive progress towards Waabi’s product and safety goals.

- Help drive Waabi’s safety culture through application of safety standards and methodologies in your area of responsibility across all supporting teams at Waabi including Systems Engineering, Hardware and Software.

- Support the documentation and tracing of all product and system requirements to tests and their executions.

- Continuously evaluate and enhance Waabi’s behavioral evaluation capabilities, look for novel approaches, identify and apply lessons learned and ensure a detailed and comprehensive documentation that is easily accessible.

- Work with external partners on gathering data and information related to driving behaviors of trucks as well as on supporting a strong safety case for the complete self-driving system.

Qualifications:

- Undergrad required; Undergrad or Masters in an engineering discipline preferred.

- 2+ years of automotive, robotics, aerospace or related industry experience.

- Experience with requirements and metrics for driving behavior evaluations.

- Experience with root causing complex systems in structured and unstructured testing.

- Experience with methods and standards such as STPA, SOTIF (ISO 21448) and / or UL 4600.

- Strong fundamentals in mathematics, engineering and physics.

- Ability to communicate complex concepts or data in a simple-yet-accurate manner.

- Excellent data analysis skills with modern tools such as Python or Matlab.

- Open-minded and collaborative leader who is eager to provide guidance and has the willingness to help others.

- Passionate about self-driving technologies, solving hard problems, and creating innovative solutions.

Bonus/nice to have:

- Experience in launching a driverless product.

- Experience in the automotive self driving industry.

- Experience building software systems from scratch.

- Experience in robotics or machine learning.

- Proficiency with data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis.
