Mudflap serves the $800B trucking industry, the backbone of the U.S. economy. Our market-leading payment products help truckers save thousands of dollars on fuel (their #1 business expense), while providing our fuel stop partners with access to new, hard-to-reach customers. We’re a fast-growing marketplace business looking for a new customer-obsessed teammate to join us on this exciting journey.

As our first in-house User Researcher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our products. You’ll be responsible for deeply understanding the needs, behaviors, and pain points of a diverse set of users, including drivers, fleet owners, and fuel merchant partners. Working closely with product, design, and engineering teams, you will drive customer-centric solutions and enhance our user experience through both qualitative and quantitative research. This is a unique opportunity to define how user research is embedded across our products and to make a tangible impact on our multi-user ecosystem.

Work Location:

Preferably based near Austin, TX or the Bay Area, CA, but we’re open to remote for the right candidate.

To support our team, we offer:

  • Commuter benefits to ease your travel
  • Lunches and snacks to keep you fueled
  • A collaborative, high-growth environment where you’ll work closely with talented teammates across the company

Expectations (In this role, you will):

  • Plan and conduct user research, including interviews, surveys, usability testing, and field studies
  • Synthesize research findings into actionable insights and present them to key stakeholders
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritize user research in the product development process
  • Create personas, journey maps, and other artifacts to communicate research insights
  • Analyze and present both qualitative and quantitative data to inform design and product decisions
  • Advocate for the voice of the user in all stages of the product development lifecycle
  • Maintain a deep understanding of user needs and behaviors to help us improve existing products and design new solutions

Experience (What we look for):

  • 3+ years of experience in user research, preferably within a fast-paced tech or marketplace environment
  • Strong proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods (interviews, surveys, usability testing, A/B testing, etc.)
  • Preferred industry experience in trucking, transportation, or related mobility sectors
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize research data into clear insights and recommendations
  • Experience collaborating with product, design, and engineering teams
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to advocate for the user
  • Experience with user research tools (e.g., Lookback, Optimal Workshop, UserTesting, etc.) and data analysis tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Tableau, etc.)
  • A growth mindset and curiosity to continuously learn and adapt research methods

Perks and Benefits (What we offer):

  • Competitive salary and equity in a high-growth startup
  • Multiple health benefit options
  • Responsible Time Off
  • 401(k) matching
  • Opportunities and support for major career growth
  • Annual Company offsite event (Mudfest!)

The salary range for this role is $155,000 - $185,000. This information reflects a base salary range for this position based on current market data, which may be subject to change as new market data becomes available. The candidate’s skills, experience, and other relevant factors will determine the exact compensation.
