Woodard & Curran is currently seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented, and client-focused Design-Build Project Manager to join our team. In this role, you will collaborate with our municipal and industrial clients to develop, design, and deliver a variety of water, wastewater, and recycled water projects nationwide.
Our Design-Build team comprises a dynamic group of engineers, construction managers, and design professionals who emulate Woodard & Curran’s values. The ideal candidate will be able to manage/drive the technical team, coordinate and negotiate change with Woodard & Curran construction partners/subcontractors, regularly evaluate and mitigate risk, and have a strong and diligent focus on project schedule, delivery, quality, and financial performance. Familiarity with a broad range of issues related to master planning, treatment, and distribution systems is preferred. In collaboration with the Technical Manager and Construction Manager, you will help lead the delivery of multiple projects, work directly with clients and internal teams, and support marketing and proposal efforts.
Offering Flexible Remote/Hybrid Work Schedule: Expectation is 1 to 2 days in the office or onsite with clients.
Travel up to 25%: Frequent, short-term travel expected to projects and clients within the US.
Just to name a few, projects may include:
- Design-Build (DB) Water & Wastewater Treatment Plants for Industrial and Municipal Clients;
- Construction Management at Risk (CMAR) Treatment Plants for Industrial and Municipal Clients;
- Industrial wastewater systems, including system upgrades, water reuse, and new facilities;
- Municipal wastewater system,s including upgrades to collection system infrastructure, pumping stations, and wastewater treatment facilities; and
- Biosolids and renewable energy development.
What you will be doing at Woodard & Curran:
- Managing and executing work on water and wastewater system design-build projects by leading and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams within Woodard & Curran and with subconsultants.
- Determining the overall delivery approach for projects. Partner with senior leadership to develop technical approaches to larger projects.
- Scheduling and tracking project budgets, milestones, and deliverables.
- Utilizing Woodard & Curran’s Project Quality Assurance (PQA) program to execute all projects.
- Demonstrating strong and proactive communication skills to keep the project management and technical team(s) updated as project work progresses.
- Connecting and working with external suppliers and subcontractors supports project delivery.
- Interacting with clients and representing the firm in a professional manner.
- Visiting client sites for meetings, proposal development, and/or to observe the status of construction projects.
- Coordinating with contractors and clients in the field during construction to ensure that projects are executed in compliance with the Contract Documents.
- Interfacing with state and local regulatory agencies and permitting officials.
- Conducting and coordinating QA/QC reviews on project deliverables to ensure Woodard & Curran’s technical excellence standards are met.
- Collaborating with leadership and resource leaders on staffing projects.
- Providing input on the development of Woodard & Curran design guidelines and standards.
- Preparing and delivering presentations and training programs to internal and external clients and professional associations.
- Supporting business development efforts under the direction of a client manager.
What you will need to succeed:
- 8-15 years of experience managing engineering and construction projects in the water and wastewater sector, utilizing progressive design-build, lump sum design-build, or CMAR delivery methods.
- A B.S. Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or Construction Management, an M.S. Degree is preferred.
- Registered Professional Engineer is preferred.
- DBIA certificate is a plus.
- The successful candidate will possess project management and delivery expertise in civil and environmental engineering, as well as an understanding of the engineering concepts associated with industrial and municipal wastewater systems.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with demonstrated strong project management skills.
- Experience in managing both engineering and construction subcontractors.
- Proven expertise in negotiating, influencing stakeholders, and effectively managing risk.
- Extensive experience with commercial and construction contracts, demonstrating strong contractual acumen.
- Well-versed in state and federal regulations and bidding laws is a plus.
- Experience with proposal writing and developing project scope, budget, and schedules.
$120,000 - $175,000 a year
This role has the option for remote work, and the anticipated pay range is flexible, depending on factors such as the employee’s primary work location, skills, experience, and education. The following examples illustrate how the pay range for the same role can vary based on different locations.
Ryebrook, NY, San Francisco, CA: $150,000 - $175,000
St. Charles, MO: $130,000 - $140,000
Bangor, ME: $120,000 - $130,000
This position’s anticipated pay range is provided; the final exempt salary or non-exempt hourly pay will depend on experience level and will consider a percentage-based geographic differential based on where the final candidate will be working. Geographic differentials recognize and reflect the cost of labor differences between geographic markets.
