The Role:

Aiven is seeking a VP of Platform Engineering to lead Aiven Platform Development and Production Engineering. You will own the future of our cloud-native and API-first platform that serves hundreds of thousands of developers globally, across several cloud providers. You will also manage the Service Reliability Engineering team that guarantees the SLA of our services across dozens of cloud regions. Lastly, you will play a vital role in defining engineering standards, best practices and setting the bar on what good looks like for all technical teams across Aiven.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish Aiven’s Technical North Star: Architect a clear, compelling technical vision that guides the creation of a scalable, adaptable, and future-proof architecture.
  • Deliver a World-Class, AI-ready Platform: Oversee the development and delivery of core platform services that can support both human and agentic workflows, including management and control planes for service orchestration, fleet management, resource provisioning, observability, analytics, internal platform interfaces, subscription & billing management.
  • AI everywhere: Experience and lead the integration of AI to drive productivity and accelerate value delivery.
  • Own the Internal Developer Experience: Maintain an active roadmap for continuous improvement of the internal developer experience.
  • CI/CD: Lead the evolution towards a state-of-the-art CI/CD pipeline to ensure rapid, reliable, and automated software delivery, enabling faster iteration and higher quality.
  • Ensure Technical Governance: Set and uphold software engineering best practices, patterns, and guardrails to maintain high code quality, efficient testing practices, predictable unit economics (finops) and consistent technical architecture across all engineering teams.
  • Guarantee Aiven’s SLA and sustainability of the platform through SRE best practices.
