About the role:

Super Dispatch is looking for a Director / VP of Engineering who will lead the execution, organization, efficiency of cross-functional Engineering teams. This role requires a close collaboration with multiple stakeholders to ensure that product improvements are designed and implemented based on high standards. The Director of Engineering will bring strong Leadership and management abilities as well as deep technical knowledge. Ideally this person will be located in Uzbekistan or a time zone friendly with our teams in the US and Central Asia.

Responsibilities:

  • Team Organization: Design, implement, and maintain the efficient team structure to meet organizational objectives.
  • Hiring and Onboarding: Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and training of Engineering staff.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Design, Support, and other departments to align engineering efforts with broader company initiatives.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously assess and improve Engineering processes and workflows.
  • Culture: Elevate and sustain an exceptional engineering culture by integrating industry-leading best practices that optimize team efficiency, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Technical Leadership: Help teams with making key decisions on software architecture and technology stack. Guide teams with managing and prioritizing technical debt.
  • Facilitation and Support: Working closely with engineers on resolving issues and technical challenges. Hands-on experience with codebase.
  • Quality Control: Oversee software development and quality assurance processes to make sure that product changes are delivered to customers using the best practices. Make sure products are scalable, reliable, secure.
  • Performance Management: Conduct performance reviews, and implement career growth plans for team members.
  • Mentorship: Provide technical and leadership mentorship to engineering managers and key individual contributors.
  • Budget Management: Oversee the Engineering budget, including hardware, software, and other costs.

Candidate Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in working in a product company with cross-departmental collaboration.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Director of Engineering (or on relevant positions like Senior Engineering Manager, Head of Engineering).
  • 3+ years of experience as a Senior Software Engineer.
  • 2+ years of managing managers.
  • Experience working with and building highly efficient software teams.
  • Experience implementing Agile, DevOps, SWDL.
  • Experience building highly available, scalable, secure backend systems.
  • Experience implementing performance indicators or metrics (DORA, KPI, OKR).
  • Experience working with remote and distributed teams - can effectively communicate with US, European, and Central Asian teams.
  • Full-stack technology knowledge (system design, backend, frontend, databases).
  • Bonus points:
    • Background in transportation/logistics.
    • Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms.

Growth Plan

Within 1 month, you’ll…

  • Graduate from Super Dispatch’s company-wide new employee onboarding program. You’ll get caught up with who we are, how we work, and what we’re building.
  • Understand the full functionality of Super Dispatch products, as well as the greater auto transportation industry and competitive landscape.
  • Understand Super Dispatch’s internal processes: how product changes are made, how different departments and cross-functional teams work, how decisions are made, etc.
  • 1:1s with all Engineering team members.
  • Meet each department head to understand cross-functional expectations and requirements.

Within 3 months, you’ll…

  • Introduce a plan for improving engineering workflows and processes.
  • Review recent performance reviews and current team objectives.
  • Understand codebase, be comfortable with small contribution.
  • Develop growth plan for Engineering Managers and Individual Contributors.
  • Own high-level execution of product roadmap items.

Within 6 months, you’ll…

  • Strengthen engineering culture.
  • Regularly review and improve the organizational structure by working with Product and Leadership closely.
  • Make sure performance KPIs are tracked correctly and improved continuously.
  • Influence the Product roadmap by bringing technical debt and other improvements that are aligned with the company goals.

Within 12 months, you’ll…

  • Develop a long-term engineering strategy, aligned with company goals.
  • Lead impactful projects that move Engineering forward.
  • Make Super Dispatch more attractive for engineers.
