⚖️ Finance & Legal🟠 Manager

Job description

Thanks for your interest in Oklo!  We are searching for a Contract Manager to join our Legal team.

Position Description:

The Contract Manager will play a crucial role helping our Legal team to support our growing procurement processes and needs as the Company scales and builds our first wave of projects.  More specifically, we are looking for an experienced contract manager to help us build out a scalable and flexible process to review procurement agreements, help negotiate procurement agreements of various types, and train product and engineering teams on contracting basics. This role reports to the Deputy General Counsel, and will work closely with others on the Legal team, as well as our procurement, product, engineering, and finance teams.

Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Use and manage Oklo’s contract lifecycle management system (Ironclad), including building out and configuring workflows, and managing templates
  • Review a variety of agreements, primarily focusing on procurement agreements (including MSAs, Purchase Orders, etc.), escalating to the Deputy General Counsel when needed
  • Manage contract execution and Oklo’s contract repository
  • Develop playbooks to help streamline redlining and negotiation
  • Provide trainings and self-service resources for relevant team members, including training to product and engineering teams to help them design and draft meaningful milestones and requirements in Statements of Work and Task Orders
  • Serve as escalation point for contracting questions from across the organization

Competencies:

We are looking for a contract manager that is:

  • Skilled at building processes from scratch including documentation and training materials
  • Advanced Ironclad power user with deep knowledge of the platform’s capabilities, integrations, and best practices
  • Able to understand and calibrate risk tolerances (with guidance from other teams), and review contracts and redlines accordingly
  • Comfortable bringing order to chaos, with a proven track record of identifying gaps and implementing improvements that make sense in a particular environment and culture
  • Exceptional at independently triaging and prioritizing work
  • A systems thinker that is comfortable both building for the long-term (and project managing cross-functional tasks to completion) and rolling their sleeves up to get things done in the short term
  • Detail-oriented while moving lightning fast
  • Passionate about clean energy and making advanced fission a reality
  • Willing and able to learn quickly
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, highly iterative startup environment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years contracting experience
  • No J.D. required (though relevant legal experience, as either a lawyer or non-lawyer, is helpful)
  • Significant experience with Ironclad including workflow configuration, template development, repository management, and reporting
  • Strong analytical and prioritization skills, with ability to assess legal risk and business impact
  • Knowledge of commercial contracting principles across various agreement types (services, procurement, partnerships, etc.)
  • Project management experience with ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and communicate effectively with different stakeholders
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, Ironclad, and Docusign

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of legal technology, including legal AI (and how it might be used to improve contracting and negotiations)
  • Legal technology implementation experience beyond Ironclad (DocuSign and NetSuite integrations)
  • Experience at high-growth companies with rapidly scaling contract volumes
  • Experience supporting procurement teams, especially teams that are procuring goods and services to build complex or large-scale development projects

Who you are:

A startup person: You aren’t driven by titles or hierarchy, and prefer efficiency to excess process.  You don’t need or expect to have a lot of guidance but you enjoy working in a fast-paced team.  If you prefer the culture and feel of a large organization, that is great, but you likely won’t enjoy working with us!  There is plenty of important work and plenty of good opportunities with organizations like that.

Motivated: You are self-motivated.  You bring an enthusiasm to the team, and imbue a sense of passion that goes beyond clocking in and clocking out. This isn’t about a fake or arbitrary “pieces of flair” mentality or lack of work-life balance!  It is about being a part of the vision and feeling a part of reaching team goals.

A team-player: Oklo genuinely is a team. We aren’t about taking credit for ourselves, and we aren’t about pushing blame to others.  We do incredible things because we work as a team.

An excellent communicator: We need a person who is not only technically competent but also a clear and upbeat communicator.

Creative: Being creative means that when things fall outside clear scopes or processes or problems arise without clear solutions, you are able to identify it as well as invent ways to solve a problem or fill a need without micromanagement. The successful person in this job will not only be creative, but also enjoy being creative and solving open-ended problems which may change day-by-day.

Detail-oriented: This focus is a big part of excellence, consistency, and quality. Even excellent grammar and spelling matter for both good communication as well as the image of the company that we put forward.

About Oklo compensation: $110,000-150,000

Oklo offers flexible time off, equity, competitive pay, 401k, health insurance, FSA, flexible work hours, and other benefits.
