PingWind is seeking a Platform Engineer to join our team supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. This is a fully remote position.  Responsibilities span the entire software development lifecycle, focusing on automation, efficiency, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• AWS Cloud Platform, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, AWS CloudFormation), Docker, EKS, Splunk, Datadog, ELK, AppDynamics, GitLab, Incident management and Alerting, Version control (GitHub, Git Lab, Git Actions), Scripting Programming languages (Bash/Shell Scripting, Ruby, Python), Networking (Ngnix, Vault, Encrypt) etc.

• GitHub, GitHub Actions, Argo, GitHub Packages, GitHub Releases, CodeClimate, Datadog, Jaeger, Kiali, Vault, Amazon Controller for Kubernetes (ACK).

• Containerization, Kubernetes, CI/CD Pipelines, Infra Engineering (policies, code), experience with tools like data dog or Dynatrace, AWS Experts, Backstage.io, EKS, Istio, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Clustering, High availability Maintenance, Disaster recovery

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines. Automate build, test, and deployment processes. Ensure rapid and reliable software releases.

• Infrastructure as Code IaC: Use tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation to automate infrastructure provisioning.

• Maintain version-controlled infrastructure configurations.

• Set up and manage monitoring tools Implement alerting systems to proactively identify issues. Analyze logs to troubleshoot and resolve incidents.

• Deploy and manage applications on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) or on-premises servers.  Optimize resource usage and cost.

• Work closely with developers, QA, and IT teams to streamline workflows. Advocate for DevOps best practices across the organization.

• Integrate security checks into CI/CD pipelines (DevSecOps). Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.

• Write scripts (Bash, Python, PowerShell, etc.) to automate repetitive tasks. Develop custom automation solutions as needed.

• Implement backup strategies and disaster recovery plans.  Regularly test recovery procedures.

• Monitor application and infrastructure performance. Identify bottlenecks and recommend improvements

Architect, build, and maintain cloud environments (AWS).

• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation

• Design scalable, resilient, and secure network architectures.

• Automate provisioning, configuration, and management of cloud resources.

• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployment.

• Use configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).

• Set up monitoring and alerting for cloud resources (using tools like CloudWatch, Prometheus, Datadog).

• Implement centralized logging and observability solutions.

• Analyze performance and cost metrics; recommend and implement optimizations.

• Enforce cloud security best practices (identity and access management, encryption, network segmentation).

• Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.

• Conduct vulnerability assessments and remediation.

• Evaluate and recommend new cloud services and technologies.

• Stay current with cloud trends and emerging best practices.

• Drive adoption of automation and DevOps practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering or technical discipline

• 5 years relevant experience.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

• Expert communication and client management skills

• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and organized

• Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills

• Flexible, able to adapt to different customer groups and expectations

• Experience working in and with cross-functional teams

• Outcome-oriented approach focused on delivering value to end users backed by measurable, data-driven results

• U.S. Citizenship; Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance
