The position

Sympower is hiring a Finance Manager to oversee our financial reporting, accounting, and compliance across our Dutch HQ and European subsidiaries. This position will lead the accurate and timely delivery of our results, along with timely financial reporting and compliance locally while supporting overall development of our financial function based in Amsterdam.

What you will do

  • Financial Control and Reporting

    • Oversee and manage timely, accurate and complete monthly close processes. 5 main trading entities in the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Greece with the finance function based in Amsterdam.

    • Maintain a robust financial management environment including further structure and streamline all financial accounting and control processes.

  • Finance operations

    • Maintain an effective and robust internal control environment, including around payables and receivables process.

    • Approval of various vendor bills, sales invoices and various payment runs.

  • Transformation

    • Drive continuous improvement in financial systems, processes and controls in both reporting and financial operations, creating a culture of innovation and scalability.

    • Identify ways to automate current manual processes around sales invoicing and vendor bill processing.

  • Team Management and Leadership

    • Management of a team of 4 direct reports (3 qualified financial controllers and 1 accounts payable officer) who cover the accounting and reporting of head office and European subsidiaries, all from the Amsterdam office.

    • Key focus around mentorship in a fast paced environment with competing priorities which will require strong organisation skills.

  • Compliance

    • Lead and manage the annual group audit process (5 main trading entities in the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Greece) by being the main contact for the external Big 4 auditors.

    • Lead and manage the timely and accurate compilation of group and subsidiary annual report(s) ensuring compliance with relevant GAAP and other regulatory requirements.

    • With the assistance of local advisors, lead and manage preparation of all applicable tax returns.

    • Ensure tax and legislative compliance on all financial matters across the group.

    • Collaborate with our back office trading team around reporting and trade settlements.

  • Stakeholder management and cross-functional cooperation

    • Manage relationships with external accounting and tax advisors in overseas countries.

    • Work closely with the FP&A Manager in relation to regular internal and investor reporting, providing input to financial planning where relevant.

    • Providing financial insight for business in relation to contracts, settlements and payment terms.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years experience managing financial financial accounting/control functions, ideally in different sizes of organisations.

  • Venture Capital or Private Equity background in at least one (preferably more) business.

  • Ability to come into our Amsterdam office approximately 3 days a week.

  • Act as a key mentor for junior team members.

  • Energy markets understanding is a big advantage.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with different stakeholders, connect different teams and coordinate processes and discussions.

  • Experience in setting up new processes and achieving  organisation wide buy-in.

  • Experience with working with NetSuite and Excel.

  • Fluent in spoken and written English. Other languages are nice to have but not essential.

Compensation

At Sympower, we believe in fair and transparent pay.

Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate’s skills, expertise, and competence. For this role, most of our new hires would fall into this range: €80,000 - €100,000.
