MCD Global Health

We were founded in 1966 as Medical Care Development, initially to support Maine’s rural health system. In 1977, we expanded internationally, and in 2024, we rebranded as MCD Global Health. We design, implement, and assess public health programs globally. We currently operate in 20 countries, including the United States, various African nations, and Latin America, and have worked in over 55 countries. We are a member of the National Network of Public Health Institutes and a registered USAID Private Voluntary Organization.

Our work addresses a range of health challenges. This includes preventing and treating infectious diseases like malaria, Zika, HIV/AIDS, and TB through vector control and diagnosis. We also focus on preventing, screening for, managing, and controlling chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancers. Our expertise extends to sanitation and hygiene, substance use prevention and recovery, maternal, newborn, and child health, and behavioral health, including suicide prevention. We strengthen health systems by developing the workforce, improving quality, and using tools like telehealth, mHealth, eLearning, and digital inclusion. We also work on performance-based financing, accreditation, health management information systems, and operations research. Additionally, we work on health policy, equity, and social behavior change. Recent projects include the Bioko Island Malaria Control Project and improving rural health systems in Maine through digital health strategies.

We specialize in finding cross-cultural and affordable solutions for vulnerable and historically underserved communities.

We work as collaborative, hands-on, and long-term partners, always learning and innovating to address new and complex health needs. Our approach involves placing staff and launching projects in low-resource areas, working directly with community members and local organizations to find effective strategies.
