Job description
Aretum is seeking an experienced Accessibility Architect to join our team and lead the charge in making our digital products accessible to all users. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing accessibility standards and guidelines that align with WCAG and Section 508 compliance.
Your expertise will be invaluable as you collaborate with cross-functional teams, including UI/UX designers and developers, to ensure that accessibility is integrated into all stages of the design and development processes. You will conduct accessibility audits, provide recommendations for improvement, and deliver training sessions to staff on best practices for inclusive design.
Due to the nature of our work as a federal consulting organization, employees may be expected to handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and must adhere to applicable safeguarding and compliance requirements. Additionally, all team members may be called upon to support proposal efforts as needed. This could include resume formatting, providing skills alignment summaries, participating in meetings, or contributing to solutioning activities based on subject matter expertise or functional experience.
Responsibilities
Conduct manual accessibility testing, using the government web tool ANDI
Conduct automated accessibility testing (e.g., Wave, Axe DevTools) and screen reader compatibility, including JAWS and NVDA for Windows and built-ins, such as Narrator for Windows and VoiceOver for iOS
Collaborate with designers and developers to integrate accessibility best practices into designs from the start
Provide remediation recommendations and ensure WCAG and 508 compliance for all applications
Produce testing reporting/documentation with qualifications, methodologies, and outcomes
Participate in sprint reviews and validate acceptance criteria
Bachelorβs Degree
4+ Years of relevant experience
Proficiency with tools like axe DevTools, WAVE, ANDI, and screen readers (JAWS, NVDA)
Experience in agile environments and user-centered design teams
Knowledge of WCAG, Section 508, and inclusive design
Preferred Qualifications
- Trusted Tester Certification
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This is a remote/work-from-home position. The employee is expected to maintain a professional and distraction-free home office environment with reliable internet access and the ability to participate in video and audio calls during standard working hours. Standard office equipment such as a computer, phone, and webcam will be used regularly.
Travel Requirement
This is a remote position; however, occasional travel may be required based on project needs, client meetings, team collaboration events, or training sessions. Travel is expected to be less than 10% and will be communicated in advance whenever possible.
