Join our growing team! As we expand operations in Colombia, we are seeking a highly reliable and detail-oriented Accountant in Colombia to manage local accounting and payroll operations while ensuring compliance with Colombian financial, tax, and labor regulations. This person will report into our U.S.-based team and provide expert guidance on local financial matters.
Essential Functions
Accounting Services
- Ensure that financial records comply with Colombian accounting, tax, and commercial regulations (understandable, useful, relevant, and timely)
- Ensure timely and accurate recording of all financial transactions, including expenses, income, and asset depreciation, in the company’s accounting software (Aliaddo)
- Issue necessary certifications as required by Colombian authorities
- Reconcile bank statements, accounts payable/receivable, and other financial data regularly and in a timely manner
- Prepare and file all applicable Colombian tax returns (municipal, national, etc.)
- Audit, monitor, and update information in the company’s accounting system
- Attend weekly virtual or face-to-face meetings (approx. 2 hours/week) with U.S. stakeholders
- Provide ongoing, personalized advice on accounting and tax issues
- Assist with financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting to support decision-making by the U.S. parent company
- Maintain organized and auditable financial files and documentation to support compliance and potential reviews
- Carry out additional tasks necessary for accurate and comprehensive financial management
Payroll Services
- Work closely with HR to ensure timely and accurate processing of employee payroll, benefits, and employment changes
- Process payroll for Colombian employees (from onboarding through termination).
- Manage employee enrollments in the Colombian social security system (health, pension, ARL, etc.)
- Record and update payroll changes (bonuses, disability, contract changes, etc.)
- Coordinate payroll execution, including bank account setup and payment uploads
- Submit electronic payroll reports to DIAN for indefinite-term employees
- File DIAN support documents for contractors
- Complete final settlements and terminations in accordance with Colombian law
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time remote position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EST, with one hour lunch, with occasional hours worked, as needed, with full compliance of Colombian schedule legislation.
Type of Work: This is a fully remote position, but preference may be given to candidates in the Medellìn area to help with some local activities
Start on a fixed employee contract and potential for indefinite contract after successful completion of training and performance
Minimum education is an Associate’s degree, preferably in the field of Accounting and/or Finance or related field
Must hold a certificate for Professional License for Public Accountants
Must be able to write and speak at least B2/C1 English
Must be located in Colombia, preferably in Medellìn - or willing to travel there, as needed
At least 3 years of experience with Accounting in Colombia, including but not limited to, payroll processing, onboarding, offboarding, policy creation, etc.
- 5-7 year of experience preferred
Strong knowledge of Colombian labor laws and regulations
Strong working proficiency in accounting and payroll software
- Preferred experience with Aliaddo
Ability to work independently and handle confidential information with discretion
Must be able to prioritize and meet important deadlines
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to work within a multi-national team across different cultures
Must uphold company core values and have commitment to employee service, while representing the business’ interests
Ability to work during Colombian holidays to match US schedule (surcharge would apply)

Starting Pay Rate: Between 5.000.000-6.000.000 COP/month, depending on experience. You will be eligible for full benefits and pension day one, deducted from that base.
