You are an experiencednewsroomAudience Growth Strategistwithstrongcontentmarketingskills.Youhavea deep understanding of content strategy, search engine optimization factors and a proven track record of executing audience growth within a newsroom. You are proactive and want to make an impact within our newsroom.
You have a strong understanding of what makes content go viral on Google Discover. Though you have a strong SEO base, they understand the interconnections and synergies between organic, social, and direct audiences. You’re well versedin Google’s plan for AI Mode and AI Overviews and understand the role LLMs and Answer Engines will play for news publishers.
You will perform in-depth research and content/competitor analysis to strategize for audience growth. A primary function of this position will be to contribute to short and long-term newsroomactivitiesincludingcommissioningstoryideas,tracking hourlytrends,optimizingarticles, competitor research, performance analysis, and content strategy buildout.
You will alsoberesponsiblefortrainingeditorialteamsinSEO and contentbestpractices,planningforfuture events, and presentations for editorial and Newsweek leadership. Your main goal is to help scale contentmarketingeffortstomeetcorecompanymetricsincluding traffic and user growth.
This is a full-time role based in our UK bureau with the ability to work from home anywhere in the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Createandexecutesuccessfulnewsroomstrategies to meet core company KPIs including increasing sessions, users, and engagement through various traffic channels.
- Have a deep understanding and create effective strategies to improve visibilityin Google Discover, Google Search and Google News.
- Work directly with other Audience, SEO and Social team members to plan and execute cohesive strategies to improve visibility.
- Performin-depthcompetitiveanalysisoncompetitorwebsites and content.
- Grow visibility around in Google’s AI Mode/Overviews and as a cited source in popular answer engines.
- Buildandexecuteacontentstrategywithtopics,contentideas,andotherstrategic notes for ourtimely and evergreen strategies. Pre-plan for future eventsby suggesting coverage, performing keyword/topic research, and compiling impactful SEO/contentrecommendations.
- Suggestnewtopicsorcoverageareastoreachnewaudiencesandcollaboratewith editorial, audience, and data teams to execute strategy.
- Makeproactiverecommendations/optimizationstoeditorialandaudienceteamsthroughouttheday about trending search and social topics to maximize reach.
- DeliverimpactfultrainingsessionsandprovideSEO/contentguidancetonewsroomeditors, journalists, and other team members.
- Ensureallcontent followsNewsweekeditorialguidelinesandbrandstandards.
- Anyotherreasonabledutiestomeettheneedsofthebusiness.
Qualifications
Required:
- Significant years of experience growing SEO or audience within a newsroom environment.
- Thorough knowledge of content factors directly related to ranking in Google Search (Top Stories) and Google News, including E-E-A-T, topical authority, and on-page optimization.
- Strong understanding of Google Discover and other content recommendation engines.
- Strong proficiency with using Google Trends, Google Search Console, GA4, SEO tools (Ahrefs/Semrush), and any real-time content analytics tool such as Parse.ly or Chartbeat.
- Experience with creating structured workflows, communicatingwith projectstakeholders and collaborating across internal teams.
- Expert project management skills with an ability to manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills with an ability to present data in an easy-to-understand way.
- A proventrack record of productive collaboration with editorial teams.
- An interest in the evolution of search, answer engines/LLMs and AI.
