Job description

Newsweek is the global media organization that has earned audience time and trust for more than 90 years. Newsweek reaches 100 million people each month with thought-provoking news, opinion, images, graphics, and video delivered across a dozen print and digital platforms. Headquartered in New York City, Newsweek also publishes international editions in EMEA and Asia.

The Director of Content Syndication will work as a strategic and dynamic deputy to support and scale our content syndication and licensing operations. This hybrid role combines editorial leadership with partner-facing responsibilities, making it ideal for a candidate who is comfortable leading a team of reporters and identifying commercial content opportunities. The ideal candidate will be an experienced journalist who wants to grow into a commercial-facing role. As Director, you will oversee the editorial strategy across syndication platforms like Apple News, while assisting the VP of Strategic Partnerships in managing relationships with commercial partners and platforms. You will oversee a team of platform-specific reporters, ensuring their work aligns with both editorial standards and strategic goals. You will identify and source story opportunities, assign work, and help shape coverage to meet the needs of diverse audiences and partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of reporters focused on coverage for specific platforms.
  • Assign platform-optimized content, ensuring it meets quality standards and aligns with both partner and internal goals.
  • Utilize audience insights and analytics to craft compelling and accurate headlines for all stories assigned.
  • Collaborate with editors across the newsroom to surface and repurpose stories for distribution to external platforms.
  • Work cross-functionally with audience, analytics, product, and legal teams to ensure optimal content delivery.
  • Support VP of Strategic Partnerships in managing high-value content and licensing partnerships with platforms, syndication partners, aggregators, and other commercial entities.
  • Track and report on performance metrics across partnerships and help identify new business opportunities.
  • Identify editorial and partnership trends and proactively evolve strategy to stay ahead of industry changes.
  • Any other reasonable duties to meet the needs of the business.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in journalism, content strategy, partnerships, or digital media.
  • Proven experience managing editorial teams and sourcing/assigning content in a newsroom or digital publication environment, with a track record of engaging a large audience.
  • Strong editorial judgment and an understanding of what drives platform-specific audience engagement.
  • Excellent headline writing skills.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Understanding of audience analytics and how data can inform editorial decisions.
  • Familiarity with licensing, syndication, or content distribution is a plus.
  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced, cross-functional environments.

Salary range: $90,000 - $100,000
