Job description

Join the Mercy For Animals Board of Directors

Transform the food system. End animal suffering.

Remote in the United States

Mercy For Animals aims to end industrial animal agriculture by constructing a just and sustainable food system. We envision a world where animals are respected, protected, and free.

As a leading farmed animal advocacy organization, we know that achieving this goal requires a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative work environment—one that welcomes and sparks new perspectives and innovative ideas. If you are passionate about our mission, driven to make a big impact for animals, and eager to be part of a dedicated team, join us!

Are you ready to help construct a compassionate food system and end the exploitation of animals for food?

We currently seek two exceptional leaders to join our board of directors. As a global organization at the forefront of farmed animal protection, Mercy For Animals is looking for mission-driven individuals who can provide strategic guidance, expertise, and leadership as we scale our impact around the world.

About This Opportunity

This is a volunteer leadership role for visionary individuals who want to make a meaningful difference in one of the world’s most pressing issues. You’ll help create a dynamic five-member board that provides strategic and financial oversight and guidance to an organization that conducts groundbreaking undercover investigations, makes plant-based eating easier and more accessible, works to eliminate the cruelest farming practices, advocates at the UN for better treatment of farmed animals, and partners with farmers and other organizations to build a better food system from the ground up.

You Will Do Invaluable Work

  • Review performance against mission-critical metrics
  • Ensure alignment with Mercy For Animals’ mission

  • Support executive team development and succession planning
  • Ensure organizational accountability and risk management

Commitment

Time Investment: Members serve about 70 hours per year, including the following:

  • Four quarterly board meetings (one in-person, three virtual)
  • Attendance at one event annually
  • Strategic consultations and mentoring
  • Networking and relationship building

Term: Members commit to a three-year term, renewable up to three consecutive terms.

  • Branding, marketing, and storytelling: proven track record in brand development, digital marketing, content strategy, and compelling narrative creation that drives engagement and action
  • Organizational scaling: hands-on experience rapidly growing organizations, including with operational systems, international expansion, and managing growth challenges
  • Connections and background: international experience; connections with influential stakeholders and potential major donors; or a background in corporate engagement, legal, or social impact work

People Especially Encouraged to Apply:
