About Hunger Free America

We started in 1983 as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, and we’ve grown into a national nonprofit. We work to end hunger in America by advocating for policies and programs that ensure everyone has enough nutritious food.

We engage in policy advocacy, grassroots organizing, and strategic volunteerism. We also help people access benefits through our hunger hotline and a volunteer website. Our teams provide in-person and remote screenings and application assistance for SNAP, connect clients to other nutrition programs, and refer them to local food pantries and soup kitchens. We also secure funding from state and city officials for anti-hunger and anti-poverty initiatives.

Team & Culture

Hunger Free America has 11-50 employees. The work environment is flexible, with some full-time roles offering a mix of remote work and in-person attendance at our New York City headquarters and events a few times a year. Other full-time positions require regular in-person work at our NYC office.
