Overview
Instacart is seeking a Chief of Staff to support our Chief People Officer (CPO). This highly strategic and operational role will require an exceptional leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high-expectations environment.
The ideal candidate is organized, analytically strong, excels in project management, and seamlessly transitions between providing strategic counsel and executing daily operational tasks. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, a team-player mindset, and a proactive approach will be key to success.
In this role, you will oversee preparation for internal meetings, act as a strategic liaison to cross-functional partners, and enhance internal technical operations. You will also play a pivotal role in executing priority initiatives within the CPO’s scope and across the broader company.
About the Role
As Chief of Staff to Instacart’s CPO, you will sit at the center of driving alignment across key priorities and enabling fulfilling Instacarat’s employee value proposition. This is a unique opportunity to shape how we redefine how people connect with food as we scale our four-sided marketplace, which encompasses Consumers, Shoppers, Retailers, and Advertisers.
In this strategic leadership role, you’ll be a trusted partner to the CPO, ensuring operational excellence, and facilitating collaboration across the People Team and key cross-functional teams. This role will be instrumental in building a strong employer brand, fostering employee growth, and ultimately driving Instacart’s success in empowering millions to nourish their lives with ease.
About the Job
Drive Operational Excellence:
- Manage business rhythms for the CPO, including team meetings, operating cadences, and organizational communications.
- Design and maintain tools and systems to track and coordinate the CPO’s interactions with the People Team and key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with People team leadership and finance partners to develop and manage the annual workforce and non-workforce budget.
Strategic Counsel:
- Work across teams to provide strategic guidance and act as a trusted partner to cross-functional leaders.
- Build impactful decision-making frameworks to advance priority workstreams.
Preparation & Insights:
- Prepare executive briefings and coordinate research for high-level meetings.
- Provide succinct goals, talking points, and background information for key meetings.
Project and Initiative Management:
- Ensure progress on critical initiatives by tracking deliverables and fostering alignment across teams.
- Contribute to all facets of the People Team operations (i.e. Total Rewards, Talent Management, HR Technology and Analytics, and Recruiting) and innovation-focused projects, amplifying the CPO’s impact across Instacart.
About You
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience, ideally in consulting, corporate tech, or a role with significant exposure to executive audiences.
- Diverse HR experience across areas such as Total Rewards, Talent Management, HR Technology and Analytics, and Recruiting.
- High EQ, with proven ability to build trusted advisor relationships with C-suite executives and effectively act as a liaison between leadership and teams.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to tackle complex challenges, break them into actionable steps, and deliver effective solutions.
- Exceptional project management ability, with experience managing multiple priorities and tasks under tight deadlines.
- Superior organizational skills and commitment to consistently producing high-quality work.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to or experience within high-growth, technology-driven companies.
- Proficient in creating structured processes to deliver on complex objectives at scale.
