Job description

Company Description

Location: Chicago-based candidates are the top preference, NYC is a close second

**Remote will be considered if the candidate is a strong fit

\*\*\* If located in Chicago or NYC there will be an expectation to go into the office 1-2x per week with flexibility surrounding that schedule

Time Commitment: 35-40 hrs/week

Contract Length: 6 months -This role is coverage for a paternity leave. As of now, there is no opportunity to extend once the FTE returns, but that could change in the future

Rate: $65-70/hr

Our client is America’s #1 non-alcoholic spirit, offering the easiest way to enjoy a satisfying cocktail without the alcohol. Put simply, they are The Liquor Replacement.

The company was started not because we have anything against alcohol, but because we like to drink… just not all the time. Because we’re trying to be healthy. Or it’s a weeknight and we don’t want to be hungover in the morning. Or we’re training, doing a dry month, making a baby, or we’ve already had a few and don’t want to go overboard.

As the #1 brand in the fastest-growing category in the whole drinks business, we are where Oatly and Impossible were a few years ago–and we’re just getting started.

This is an opportunity to join an elite team funded by a major multinational as we redefine an entire category.

First and foremost, this person is a skilled writer in all forms of brand messaging, from headlines to blog articles, product descriptions to social copy, emails to video scripts, and beyond. Only very strong writers should apply for this role.

Beyond the writing skills, we’re looking for a highly intelligent critical thinker with the curiosity and desire to work cross-functionally. The Copywriter will be asked to utilize a range of skills, transitioning frequently between projects that require strategic, creative, and analytical approaches.

This role is an opportunity to be a key player on a badass brand marketing team comprised of experts in their respective fields.

Brand Voice & Messaging:

  • Learn, manifest, and extend both the Ritual and Seedlip brand voices across all forms of communication
  • Adapt between distinctly different brand tones (Ritual: straightforward with swagger; Seedlip: elevated and whimsical)
  • Partner with Graphic Designers to form an ad agency style creative team
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of brand copy bibles and guidelines for both brands

Multi-Channel Copy Creation:

  • Write effectively across a variety of media types, owned and paid, including email, social, blog, out-of-home, digital display, video, native, e-commerce, and packaging copy
  • Create educational content that explains non-alcoholic spirits as an emerging category, including product benefits, usage occasions, and reasons to choose alcohol alternatives
  • Support packaging initiatives including back label copy and product descriptions
  • Assist with event-related copy such as invitation copy and promotional materials

Audience-Specific Writing:

  • Write for both B2B trade audiences (distributors, liquor store owners, bartenders) and B2C consumers, adjusting tone and messaging appropriately for each audience
  • Know the Ritual customer profile inside and out and ensure communication reaches high priority audiences at all stages of the customer journey
  • Go from a brief with objectives, messaging priorities and deliverables to a final product that accomplishes business goals

Campaign & Project Support:

  • Support major seasonal campaigns, particularly Dry January initiatives (our biggest moment of the year)
  • Provide copy support for new product launches and contribute to campaign development
  • Have a strong command of spelling and grammar, with the ability to proofread and edit brand communications before delivery
  • Flex as needed into other marketing projects with an openness to learn and adapt to the department’s needs

Qualifications

Writing Excellence:

  • 5+ years of relevant copywriting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating versatility across different formats and audiences
  • Exceptional command of spelling, grammar, and brand voice adaptation
  • Ability to write educational/explanatory content for emerging product categories

Industry Experience:

  • CPG and/or beverage industry experience strongly preferred, particularly spirits or alcoholic beverage brands
  • Experience writing for regulated industries and understanding legal/compliance constraints on marketing copy
  • Advertising or marketing agency experience preferred

Technical & Collaboration Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Dropbox, Slack, and Asana project management platform
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to different workflows
  • Strong time management skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Independent and self-motivated work style with high attention to detail

  • Ability to write for both B2B trade and B2C consumer audiences
  • Flexibility to adapt writing style across different brand voices and tones
  • Strong listening and workplace communication skills
  • Ability to deliver clear and consistent communication to team members
