Competitive Salary + Car

Our vision is to Create Better Places and Futures for Everyone; Socially, Environmentally and Economically. For us, these aren’t words on paper. This is our powerful and purposeful statement that guides our actions and ignites a passion in every one of us. We’ve been paving the way since 1890. Our passion for our products and customers has made us a Superbrand that is synonymous with quality; supplying prestigious landmarks such as Trafalgar Square, while also caring for the environment and communities in which we operate.

In our specialist Design and Engineering Team we are dedicated to creating innovative and sustainable design solutions that set new industry standards which you can see at Battersea Power Station and Victoria Square in Birmingham, to name just a couple. It is in this innovative team that we have an opportunity for a Technical/Design & Engineering consultant, referred to internally as a Pavement Engineer.

So, what’s the role? With the fantastic training and support offered by your manager and the rest of the team, you will be putting your stakeholder management and design skills to great use. You will be providing engineering and design solutions within the specialist area of Pavement Engineering.

While you’ll be a part of the Design and Engineering team you’ll also work closely with the external sales teams, becoming the ‘go-to’ for technical design advice. As a real ‘people person’ with fantastic communication skills you’ll be getting out, alongside the external sales team, to a wide range of customers and internal stakeholders to confidently deliver information. If you love variety, you’ll be pleased to hear that your customers would include, but not be limited to, landscape architects, consultant engineers, main contractor design teams, local authorities and housing developers – a real chance for you to network and build relationships across different clients.

Key to success in this area, is your ability to balance your technical knowledge whilst communicating it in an engaging and consultative way; adding value to projects and securing sales with your specialist advice. Your expertise will also be sought out to create technical proposals, build and deliver engineering-focused CPD presentations and provide support to the resolution of on-site issues. Your natural curiosity and eye on future innovation will be a great asset as you support the development of new products, systems and design methodology. Developing a network of contacts and relationships within the engineering community is essential as you share your knowledge and best practice and come up with new ideas.

You may have worked in an engineering role but have a passion for a more customer-facing career or have experience in a Technical Sales role that hasn’t quite struck the balance on the technical and design aspects you love; this role is the perfect blend of the two.

What skills do you need to bring?

Previous success has shown us we need a commercial thinker who can build relationships, influence, and has a passion for their craft.

  • Experience of working in a Technical Sales role, ideally in a similar industry
  • A proven interest in engineering and design with a natural curiosity
  • A love of building long and lasting relationships with people at all levels
  • The ability to manage your own time and priorities efficiently and proactively
  • A willingness to develop and grow your skills - we’d welcome your application if you are looking for the next step to enhance your experiences
  • A Civil Engineering related degree or working towards a relevant professional qualification with a good understanding of constructions standards such as; DMRB, specification for highway works, BS 7533 Design Standards, SuDS design manuals (CIRIA SuDS manual e.g.) would be beneficial
  • A full driving license and the ability to travel throughout the South of England, ideally living on patch

So, what’s in it for you? Working from your home office you will have autonomy to grow your business and career.

Benefits:

  • Company Car
  • 34 days per annum of the equivalent in hours (inclusive of bank holidays)
