Mid-level

Job description

ViaBill operates at the intersection of the eCommerce, payments and consumer credit sectors, and is an industry pioneer and early market entrant in the BNPL industry, which is experiencing rapid growth. Becoming the best at something isn’t easy. It takes skill, hard work, and an unmatched level of ambition and determination. Our team is international, experienced and most of all, hardworking. In just a few years, we’ve grown from our first office in an art gallery in Denmark to having our teams located all over the globe.

From a handful of customers to handling transactions worth more than $150M per year, we aren’t afraid of new challenges and new markets. Our strategy has been validated with external investment from leading VC’s Headline and BlackFin Capital Partners.

As demand for our BNPL platform grows across Europe, we’re scaling our infrastructure - and we need another strong DevOps engineer to help us do it right. We’re constantly evolving our infrastructure to support growth, new market entries, and tougher compliance demands. Everything we build is about moving faster, scaling smarter, and automating ruthlessly.

You’ll join a lean, sharp, and ambitious team that builds and maintains the systems powering real-time financial decisions. If you thrive on autonomy, speed, and reliability, read on.

Team size: You’ll be the third core member of our DevOps team.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Run and scale our cloud-native microservices platform (primarily Java-based) on AWS
  • Maintain and improve our fully Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) environment
  • Optimize cost, reliability, and performance of our AWS footprint
  • Work closely with developers and data teams to deliver self-service tools, dynamic environments, and bulletproof CI/CD pipelines
  • Help us pass compliance audits like ISO 27001 and PCI DSS through robust, repeatable infrastructure patterns
  • Own key DevOps initiatives like cost optimization, observability upgrades, and platform refactoring
  • Be part of an on-call rotation, because we own what we build

What we expect from you:

  • You know what it means to support high-stakes systems where uptime, speed, and security are non-negotiable.
  • You’re comfortable moving fast without breaking things - and when something does break, you know how to handle it calmly and methodically.
  • You can work independently and take initiative
  • You can manage multiple priorities in fast-changing environments
  • You think in systems, not just scripts
  • You communicate clearly and collaborate without ego

What you bring to the table:

  • Must-have experience: Strong Linux background
  • Solid AWS experience: EC2, EKS, RDS (MariaDB/PostgreSQL), S3, DynamoDB, SNS, SQS, STS, Networking
  • Kubernetes (ideally EKS) in production
  • Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform
  • CI/CD pipelines (we use GitLab)
  • BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Professional English (written and spoken)
  • Proven experience in automated infrastructure and DevOps practices

Nice-to-haves:

  • Ansible for config management
  • Monitoring with Prometheus/Grafana
  • Experience with microservices in cloud-native setups
  • Good scripting skills in at least one language
  • Hands-on with event-driven architectures (SNS/SQS)
  • Experience with Java/Spring Boot applications
  • Familiarity with cloud networking concepts
  • Awareness of ISO 27001 / PCI DSS compliance requirements
  • AWS analytics services (Athena, Glue, Redshift)
  • An eye for clean, maintainable code

Our stack

  • Cloud: AWS (managed services wherever possible)
  • Orchestration: Kubernetes (EKS), Helm, Helmfile
  • IaC & Automation: Terraform, Ansible
  • Containers: Docker
  • Monitoring & Secrets: Prometheus, Grafana, Vault
  • CI/CD: GitLab

Upcoming Projects

  • Implement dynamic, self-managed dev environments
  • Reduce AWS spend while increasing performance
  • Align infrastructure with expanding compliance requirements
  • Level up monitoring and alerting systems
  • Build out scalable analytics environments for BI and data teams
  • Refactor for faster, safer deployments
  • Improve the resiliency of our multi-service architecture
