DataKind is looking for a Director, Product Management !
DataKind is seeking a Director, Product Management to own the product roadmap and success criteria for DataKind’s suite of solutions. This is a new role at DataKind, designed to lead a growing team that defines the product management methodology at DataKind, coordinating closely with program officers and engineering teams to consistently deliver solutions that advance the organization’s mission.
Location
Remote position available anywhere in the U.S. with working hours primarily between 8am-6pm Eastern Time.
Salary Range The salary range is $150,000 - $170,000
Actual salary within this range will be based on the candidate’s experience and internal salary equity scan of active employee(s) with similar role and experience.
About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Vice President, Product and Programs, the Director, Product Management will strategically define total addressable market, solution landscape, customer and market signals, and partnership opportunities. Tactically, this role will guide teams to build consistent, engaging UI/UX experiences across products and product features, develop problem statements and hypotheses to address complex needs, and define impact measures, success criteria, roadmap success, and performance metrics. This role will regularly engage outside the organization and will frequently meet with both donors and end users.
Core Responsibilities
The Director, Product Management will be responsible for the following in addition to any other project assigned by the Vice President, Product and Programs:
Analysis of Customer and Market Signals: Understand the relevant data and application landscape, donor and customer needs, regulatory requirements, and partnership opportunities to create an informed long-term product strategy. Assess the total addressable market for the product portfolio and develop strategies to increase penetration. Implement a strategy for gathering customer input and guide the team to translate that into product vision and roadmap.
Product Definition: Own and drive the product management methodology at DataKind with measurable criteria that guide investment prioritization across tightly resourced teams. Lead the product discovery research steps to define the customer base for the product suite and lead teams to create innovative solutions that satisfy complex customer needs. Ensure organizational buy-in for the product roadmaps and present performance metrics to senior leadership.
Product Development: Guide the team from vision to release. Lead the team to deliver product roadmaps, user stories, and groomed backlogs that ensure smooth collaboration with Design and Engineering. Participate in sprint planning to align on tradeoffs during development.
Go To Market: Define the release strategy and ensure organizational readiness for different phases by informing the delivery of product overviews, FAQs, press materials, marketing materials, etc. Evangelize the feature(s)/feature areas with internal and external stakeholders, donors, analysts, partners, and customers in the industry.
Product Performance: Guide the team to define and collect performance metrics, monitor and report on progress, and derive insights to improve product/feature development, iteration, and implementation.
Qualifications
Required
- Alignment and enthusiasm for DataKind’s mission and values
- 8+ years of experience in product management, with a strong track record of launching successful software products and driving strategic initiatives.
- 4+ years of experience managing product managers of cross-functional product teams, with a demonstrated ability to mentor and scale talent.
- Demonstrated success leading end-to-end product lifecycle – from discovery and user research through development, launch and iteration.
- Experience developing data-informed product strategies, defining success metrics, and using performance unsigned to guide decision-making.
- Proven ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments, including internal teams, external partners, donors, and end users.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into compelling narratives for non-technical audiences.
- Experience working with agile and lean development methodologies, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and hypothesis-driven development.
- Ability to balance strategic vision with tactical execution, especially in resource-constrained or fast-paced environments.
- Comfort with cross-cultural collaboration and experience working with distributed or global teams.
Preferred :
- Experience in the nonprofit or social impact sector, ideally in education, financial inclusion, humanitarian aid, or data-for-good contexts.
- Familiarity with social impact measurement frameworks (e.g., Theory of Change, logic models, or similar) and applying these to product strategy.
- Experience in partnering with philanthropic funders or working in an environment with grant-based funding models.
- Knowledge of data science and machine learning concepts, especially as they apply to solving complex social challenges.
