Job description
United Field Services seeks a detail‑obsessed Email & SMS Notification Operations Specialist to own the day‑to‑day delivery of every transactional message our platform sends. From Twilio SMS alerts that a work order has landed to crisp onboarding emails that invite new clients, you’ll keep templates sharp, deliverability high, and users perfectly informed.
Position: Part‑Time Email & SMS Notification Operations Specialist
Location: Remote (U.S. time zones preferred)
Hours: 15–20 hours per week (flexible)
What You’ll Do
Own the message pipeline. Operate and monitor all outbound notifications—transactional email and SMS—generated by our proprietary web application.
Run Twilio SMS. Keep Messaging Services, phone numbers, and Opt‑Out keywords healthy; track delivery rates, carrier feedback, and cost per send.
Steward transactional email. Maintain responsive HTML/MJML templates stored in Git; manage SMTP credentials (AWS SES/Postfix) and ensure DKIM, SPF, and DMARC remain green.
Template QA. Validate renders across major email clients and mobile devices; preview SMS character counts and link wrapping.
Event & trigger logic. Translate product events (e.g., vendor assigned / client invited / document uploaded) into clear messages, throttle volumes, and prevent duplicates.
Compliance & consent. Enforce TCPA (for SMS) and CAN‑SPAM; manage unsubscribe flows and SMS STOP/HELP logic.
Instrumentation & alerts. Build dashboards for open, click‑through, delivery, and complaint metrics; set up PagerDuty/Sentry alerts for spikes or API failures.
Iterate & improve. Propose subject‑line/SMS‑copy tests, template refinements, and new event hooks to improve engagement and reduce support tickets.
4+ years managing high‑volume transactional email and/or SMS in a SaaS or web‑product context.
Hands‑on experience with Twilio (or similar SMS API) and an SMTP‑based email service (AWS SES, Mailgun, Postfix, etc.).
Solid HTML & CSS for email, plus familiarity with MJML or responsive frameworks.
Comfort reading API logs, JSON payloads, and basic SQL for troubleshooting.
Ability to navigate a Python codebase and submit lightweight pull requests for notification-related integrations.
Working knowledge of deliverability/authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and SMS carrier compliance (10DLC registration, opt‑in rules).
Eye for detail and copy‑editing excellence.
Clear, concise written English and strong async communication skills.
