Your Purpose

As a leader, you will oversee a team of highly talented engineers around the globe, fostering a two-way exchange of knowledge. You will collaborate closely with multiple teams throughout Bitso, allowing you to exert significant influence both within and outside your team. Your software engineering skills will be invaluable in guiding teams to build software here. While we embrace a security by design mindset, delivering software in the correct cadence is essential to making an impact. Your analytical, data-driven, security-oriented abilities and experience with software architecture tradeoffs will contribute to your success.

Who You Are

  • Passionate about cryptocurrency.
  • Possesses a high degree of responsibility, organization, and discipline.
  • Exhibits exceptional attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates 2+ years of leadership experience, including managing and mentoring technical and product-oriented teams.
  • Displays exceptional oral and written communication skills, and can convey complex security concepts to diverse audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Possesses excellent time and project management skills, with a proven ability to lead complex security initiatives and deliver results within set deadlines.
  • Eager and comfortable with building and scaling teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Exhibits a strong ability to negotiate deliverables and trade-offs with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in distributed systems, and can leverage this expertise to guide team decisions towards simplicity and long-term robustness.
  • Possesses extensive experience and knowledge of remote work and can effectively maintain asynchronous discussions and checkpoints with teams and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, Datadog).
  • Experience working with Git and automated CI/CD tools.
  • Available to work full-time.
  • Proficient in English.

Nice to Have

  • You’ve got experience working with Java 8+
  • You know your way around Kubernetes, GRPC, and REST
  • You’ve led multiple teams before
  • You’ve got knowledge or experience in the finance industry
  • You’ve got knowledge or experience with data architecture systems, like data lakes, data ingestion, cleansing, and data governance
  • You’ve led engineering communities, like guilds

What You Will Do

  • Guide the team’s advancement by refining the organizational structure, which includes establishing on-call schedules, career development pathways, and other essential operational procedures.
  • Elevate the overall security and quality of our systems by spearheading initiatives that implement best practices, align with established software engineering standards, and ensure effective communication with middle management and executive leadership.
  • Mentor team members to deliver features within appropriate context and a well-balanced approach to speed and scope definition.
  • Guide your team toward success by maintaining honesty and directness with team members, providing them with reliable leadership.
  • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to align project scope and delivery plans.
  • Pitch your team’s roadmap and deliverables to middle management and executives.

Your Team

You will lead a team full of engineers that vary in seniority from medium to staff levels. Quite often you will have engineer managers as your peers as well as product managers.
