What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that’s all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you’ll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
In this role, you will be part of a team that accelerates and unblocks Canva engineers by reducing everyday friction and cognitive load. We provide stable and reliable developer environments, intuitive self-service capabilities, and a single entry point for tooling and services. Your work will directly impact the productivity and efficiency of Canva’s technology teams, helping them deliver high-quality features faster. By focusing on empowering Canva with the state of art development environments, you will play a key role in driving Canva’s technological advancements and overall success.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
- Leading the Developer Environment team, ensuring smooth delivery of frictionless development experiences
- Owning our IDE strategy and driving DevPod improvements and Devbox capability uplifts
- Delivering a unified interface to support common developer workflows
- Driving adoption of AI-powered coding tools across the engineering org
- Collaborating with Infra and DevX teams to deliver a cohesive tooling ecosystem
- Making sound long-term investments to support Canva’s hyperscale growth

The Developer Environment team at Canva is dedicated to enabling the fast and reliable orchestration of Canva runtime environments. Our mission is to support seamless development environments for all technologists at Canva. We prioritize according to the the rapidly shifting developer tooling landscape to ensure Canva technologists always have the most cutting edge tools at their fingertips. Our team values versatility, clean code, and adaptability to changing circumstances, which are crucial for our collective success. By maintaining high standards and embracing challenges, we contribute significantly to Canva’s vision and strategy, ensuring that our products and features are robust and efficient.
