Job Description
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that’s all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you’ll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Engineering Manager to lead our Web Workflows team. This role requires a blend of strong technical understanding of frontend and web infrastructure, excellent people management skills, and a deep empathy for developer pain points. You’ll be working alongside other Engineering Managers who lead Platform Workflows and Backend Workflows, jointly aligning on strategy, resourcing, and roadmap cohesion across the infra stack.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
- Leading a team of 7 engineers to improve web developer workflows, tools, and infrastructure at scale
- Driving strategy and execution to reduce friction for frontend developers across Canva
- Collaborating with Platform and Backend Workflow teams to ensure a cohesive DevEx journey
- Mentoring engineers, managing team rituals, and supporting individual growth and performance
- Overseeing high-impact projects like improving TypeScript IDE performance, server rebuilds, and dev environment stability
- Partnering cross-functionally to elevate developer experience from idea to production
You’re probably a match if
- You’ve led high-performing engineering teams and love coaching and scaling others
- You bring hands-on expertise with frontend dev tooling—TypeScript, Webpack, IDEs, Bazel
- You’ve worked in large-scale monorepos and thrive on improving developer experience
- You have a strategic mind, strong technical judgment, and a collaborative leadership style
- You’re energised by solving pain points that improve engineering velocity and satisfaction
- You champion performance, reliability, and simplicity in everything you ship
