About the Role
The Council is seeking a detail-oriented and data-savvy Graduate Research Assistant to support ongoing research and policy initiatives. This part-time role (5–10 hours per week) is ideal for a current doctoral student interested in criminal justice data, policy, or applied research. The position is fully remote, offers flexible scheduling, and reports directly to the Policy Director.
Responsibilities
Assist with data updates for CCJ’s descriptive data products
Support the research team with data and research-related tasks, as needed
Current enrollment in a graduate program (public policy, criminology, sociology, social work, data science, or related field required); enrollment in a doctoral program preferred. The degree completion date must be in December 2025 or later.
Familiarity with criminal justice data sources and concepts
Experience with basic quantitative analysis; familiarity with Excel and Stata is essential, Tableau a plus
Strong research and writing skills, including the ability to synthesize literature quickly
Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy
Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote setting

A graduate research assistantship with the Council on Criminal Justice provides valuable opportunities to enhance your research skills and expand your professional network. The graduate research assistant will be paid an hourly rate within a range of $25 - $35 per hour, commensurate with experience.
