About the Business Operations Program Management (BOPM) team

Thumbtack’s Business Operations Program Management (BOPM) Team is the operating heartbeat of Thumbtack and the engine behind many of our most critical strategic initiatives. We operate at the intersection of strategy and execution, partnering closely with senior leaders to design and scale company operating processes and rhythms, align teams, and deliver meaningful outcomes. With a bird’s-eye view of the company and deep involvement in day-to-day execution, we bring clarity to complexity and structure to ambiguity.

We’re embedded across functions to help teams work smarter and move faster. Whether it’s designing operational frameworks, standing up new programs, or creating scalable systems that last - we’re here to make sure bold ideas don’t just get imagined, they get delivered.

About the role

We’re looking for a strategic operator and systems thinker to architect and run the operating heartbeat of Thumbtack. As Head of BOPM, you’ll define and manage our operating model, ensuring our rhythms, planning, and executive forums are simple, nimble, and effective. This role sits at the center of our cross-functional operating model, driving clarity and cohesion through company-wide processes, cascading communication, and strategic change initiatives. You’ll partner closely with senior leadership, helping Thumbtack stay aligned, agile, and focused during moments of growth, transformation, and innovation. If you thrive in zooming out to see the big picture, but can zoom in to get the details right, you’ll feel right at home in this role.

What you’ll do

  • Operating Model & Systems Design: Own and continuously improve Thumbtack’s operating model. You’ll favor simple, scrappy frameworks over heavyweight processes, rebuilding anything that slows the business down.
  • Planning & Operating Rhythms: Run annual and quarterly planning, budgeting, road-mapping, and business reviews that keep teams aligned and accountable, without drowning them in process and deliverables.
  • Executive Forums & Leadership Cadence: Orchestrate Executive Team and Senior Director+ meetings, offsites, and decision forums; drive crisp calls-to-action and ensure context flows seamlessly across the org.
  • Strategic Initiatives & Change Leadership: Lead cross-company programs (AI adoption is first up), stitching together product, finance, people, and comms so big bets land smoothly and stick.
  • Executive Communication: Turn complex strategy into punchy memos and decks that align everyone forward, then cascade the “why/what/how” so teams can execute with confidence.
  • Team Leadership: Lead a small, high-impact BOPM crew that supports Central Ops, Finance, and EPAD partners; creating a culture that pairs operational rigor with experiment-friendly innovation.
  • Org-Wide Context & Narrative Shaping: Partner with the Internal Comms to translate executive-level decisions and strategy into impactful messaging that inspires and mobilizes employees

In order to be successful, you must bring

  • Outcome Oriented Operator: You’ve led company wide planning and operating rhythms inside fast-moving, mid-size tech companies and are obsessed with winning through the simplest, scrappiest systems. And when those systems outlived their usefulness (even if you built them) you didn’t cling – you are hungry for feedback and rebuild without ego.
  • Strategic Leader with Executive Presence: You’ve lived at the intersection of operational strategy and executive decision making, bringing a POV that doesn’t just mirror leadership’s thinking but constructively challenges and improves it. You’re respected not only for your ability to align leadership to a strategic perspective, but also your ability to challenge and disagree with leadership.
  • Executive-level Communicators: You’ve written the doc that got everyone aligned or the memo that turned strategy into action. Whether crafting board updates, Slack threads, or planning decks, you’re known for taking complexity and turning it into something people actually read and use.
  • Cross-Functional Bridge Builder: You’ve led cross-functional initiatives without relying on title or reporting lines. By staying close to the business and building trust, you’ve connected dots across teams and created the forums, rituals, and relationships that break silos and keep everyone rowing together.
  • AI Experimenter & Tech Fluency: You play with new tools personally, track the AI ecosystem, and spot practical ways automation can unlock speed, insight, and better decisions for the business. You are deeply passionate about unlocking new levels of productivity and impact for the company through technology
  • Agility: You’ve successfully toggled between 30,000-ft strategic thinking and on-the-ground execution and know when to zoom out and dive in. You are comfortable with chaos and ambiguity and know how to confidently bring order to chaos.
  • People First Manager: You’ve built and led small, nimble teams where excellence and experimentation coexist. Your people thrive because you’ve created space for feedback, growth, and trying new things while still delivering high-impact work.
