Manager

Job description

Hi there!

We’re SweedPos , a product-driven startup building an all-in-one cannabis retail platform. We’re on the lookout for a HR Manager (0.5 FTE) to join our team remotely.

About Us

At Sweed, we’re reimagining how cannabis retailers operate. Our enterprise-grade platform combines POS, eCommerce, Marketing, Analytics and Inventory Management into a single, seamless solution—eliminating the need for multiple third-party tools.

We believe in simplicity, efficiency, and innovation. That’s why we build for scalability and performance, making life easier for cannabis retailers while driving real business growth.

Why We’re Doing This

At Sweed, we believe in the medicinal potential of cannabis. It has been shown to help with chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and many other conditions. Despite the lingering stigma, we see cannabis as a powerful tool for improving lives.

The industry is evolving rapidly, and we’re here to drive that transformation—making cannabis retail more efficient, accessible, and customer-friendly.

Where We Are Now

We’ve been on the market for 7 years, continuously growing and refining our product.

Our focus is on earning customer trust, which means constantly improving our delivery processes and rolling out new features. At the same time, we navigate the complex legal landscape of the cannabis industry, ensuring our platform remains compliant and future-proof.

Team Structure

Right now, our total team size is around 200 people:

The development team is distributed globally and organized into cross-functional product teams. These teams typically consist of 8–12 members, including front-end and back-end developers, QA specialists, and analysts.

Each team is led by a Team Lead and a Product Owner, ensuring effective collaboration and clear direction.

Meanwhile, our CEO, account managers, and customer success team are based in the USA, working closely with us to align product development with business and user needs.

What to do in the project?

  • Legal Compliance & Employee Relations

    • Stay current on federal employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO) and applicable regulations in each of our 13 operating states.

    • Advise leadership on compliance risks, draft policy updates, and lead investigations of employee complaints or potential violations.

    • Serve as trusted advisor in complex ER matters—discipline, performance improvement plans, terminations—documenting processes to mitigate legal exposure.

  • Payroll & Compensation Administration

    • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing (bi-weekly or monthly), ensuring accurate tax withholdings, wage-payment compliance, and timely filings across multiple state jurisdictions.

    • Partner with Finance to reconcile payroll, resolve discrepancies, and produce regular reports on headcount and labor costs.

  • Benefits & HR Operations

    • Manage benefits enrollment and administration (health, dental, vision, 401(k), leave policies), working closely with brokers and carriers.

    • Conduct open-enrollment and ongoing employee communications on plan changes, eligibility, and compliance requirements.

    • Maintain HRIS data integrity, audit employee files for policy adherence, and ensure PTO, leave of absence, and disability requests are handled per state law.

  • Targeted Recruitment & Onboarding

    • Lead recruiting for key roles: draft job descriptions, screen candidates, coordinate interviews, and extend offers.

    • Partner with hiring managers to define hiring criteria and ensure candidate experience aligns with company values.

    • Oversee onboarding process to ensure new hires are set up for success—equipment provisioning, benefit elections, policy acknowledgment.

What professional skills are important for us?

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience in a U.S. organization, with at least 2 years directly managing multi-state HR operations.

  • Deep knowledge of federal employment law and hands-on experience interpreting and applying diverse state statutes (wage-payment, leave, discrimination, etc.).

  • Proven payroll expertise—managing multi-state payroll cycles, tax filing, and year-end W-21099 processes.

  • Strong track record resolving sensitive employee-relations issues and conducting fair, defensible investigations.

  • Experience administering benefits programs and working with brokers/carriers.

  • Hands-on recruiting skills: sourcing, interviewing, and closing candidates.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication; capable of translating legal requirements into clear policies.

  • HRIS proficiency.

What Else Matters?

  • Proactivity– We love team members who take initiative and provide feedback

  • Critical thinking – We value problem-solvers who think beyond just writing code

  • Adaptability – Our industry is evolving fast, and we need people who thrive in change

What We Offer

  • Medical, dental, vision, and other health insurance options.

  • Paid parental leave.

  • Paid company observed holidays.

  • Generous paid time off.

  • Equipmentreimbursement (laptops, monitors, etc.)

Hiring Process

  • Hiring Manager call (up to 1 hour)

  • Technical Interview (up to 1 hour) – Deep dive into HR
