Position Overview
Advantage is seeking a Lead Content Strategist to guide a high-performing editorial team and elevate content quality across platforms. This individual will manage four direct reports—including the Content Operations Manager, Managing Editor, Lead Writer, and Content Writer—and serve as a key liaison between internal teams and external stakeholders.
This is a highly visible, client-facing role that requires strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills. It’s also very much a player/coach position: in addition to overseeing strategy and workflow, this person will be hands-on with content development and expected to write regularly—setting the standard for excellence through their own work.
This role is ideal for a collaborative, detail-oriented editor who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is confident in navigating complex and technical subject matter. The ideal candidate has a strong command of tone and voice and excels at producing content that is educational, engaging, and aligned with client goals across multiple formats.
The successful candidate will be strategic, technical, and data-driven—able to use insights to inform the development of winning content strategies. They understand that content isn’t just communication, but a core driver of customer engagement and business growth. Familiarity and comfort with video and audio content as part of an integrated content strategy is also important.
Success in this role requires a strategic mindset and a passion for storytelling, along with a demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools into content creation and workflow optimization—without compromising brand integrity or originality.
Expected Outcomes
- Leads the development and execution of content strategies across multiple projects, topics, and brand voices.
- Produces high-quality content that captures each client’s tone, message, and differentiators across formats including whitepapers, blogs, articles, social/short-form content, website copy, assessments, and email campaigns.
- Demonstrates measurable impact on brand visibility and reputation management.
- Applies strategic guidance to clients on video and audio as a key component in winning content strategies.
- Applies SEO best practices across all digital content, with a strong understanding of how SEO influences search performance and audience engagement.
- Stays current on industry trends in content, SEO, and AI—and applies relevant insights to client work.
- Educates and nurtures audiences through compelling, informative copywriting.
- Creates content tailored to the nuances and requirements of a variety of digital platforms.
- Makes thoughtful trade-offs between SEO, AI, and brand messaging without compromising clarity, brand reputation, or strategic goals.
- Contributes to increased customer loyalty and retention through effective content tied to client deliverables.
- Tracks, analyzes, and reports on content performance to demonstrate ROI for clients.
- Develops and refines internal content processes and SOPs for team-wide efficiency.
- Collaborates cross-functionally with Authority Advisors, Strategists, Digital Media Specialists, Web Developers, and others to ensure accurate, on-time delivery of client work.

Skills and Experiences
Required:
- 7+ years of experience conceptualizing, managing, and producing content that establishes thought leadership and delivers measurable results
- 5+ years of experience in agency, corporate, academic, or journalism settings
- 5+ years of experience leading a cross-functional content team
- Extensive experience in customer-focused marketing copywriting and storytelling across a range of digital formats
- Proven expertise in writing and editing marketing content across industries and channels
- Skilled in writing for multiple mediums, including website copy, advertising, email campaigns, whitepapers, long-form blogs, and articles
- Demonstrated ability to lead content strategy and collaborate with subject matter experts, account managers, and internal stakeholders
- Hands-on experience applying SEO best practices to content planning and production
- Familiarity with AI writing tools to support content creation while maintaining originality and brand alignment
- Strong research and writing abilities across a wide range of complex topics
- Working knowledge of standard style guides, such as the AP Stylebook and Chicago Manual of Style
Preferred:
- Successful track record of working collaboratively on content teams, with strong expertise in planning, strategy, writing, editing, QA, and project management
- Demonstrated ability to create engaging, results-driven content across platforms, leveraging SEO and AI tools to refine strategy and execution
- Skilled in tracking content performance and reporting ROI to guide ongoing improvements
- Experience working with high-level clientele, with the ability to adapt messaging and tone across diverse audiences and channels
- Certifications in SEO, AI prompt engineering, or copyediting
- Experience creating content that drives customer engagement and supports business growth
- Proficiency with project management tools (Monday.com preferred)
- Experience with video/commercial storyboarding, scriptwriting and otherwise telling a story through visually oriented media that is designed for social media, speaker’s reels, or other branding and marketing purposes.
Reporting Structure
This role reports directly to the Director of Digital Strategy
Work Environment
We prefer a candidate based in Charleston, SC, who can work in our downtown office two days per week. However, we welcome remote candidates and are excited to explore talent beyond our local area. Non-local hires will be expected to travel periodically to our Charleston headquarters to collaborate with the core team and stay engaged with our company culture.
