The Role:

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated primary care physician to join our team as a Medical Director- Integrated Primary Care. In this dual-role, full-time position, the Medical Director will spend 75% of their time providing direct patient care and 25% on leadership and strategic initiatives. This includes managing and mentoring a team of physicians, collaborating cross-functionally with health plan colleagues, and contributing to the identification and implementation of strategies to reduce total cost of care (TCOC) while enhancing quality outcomes.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with strong clinical expertise, a track record of leadership, and experience in value-based care. This role is pivotal in bridging clinical practice with health plan operations to optimize care delivery and drive impact.

You will:

Leadership and Cross-Functional Collaboration (25%):

  • Oversee and support a team of physicians, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback
  • Provide medical guidance on the development and implementation of evidence-based  protocols, procedures, and outcome measurements, to succeed in value based care programs
  • Lead collaboration and deliver results with colleagues in actuarial, analytics, care management, and network teams to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for reducing total cost of care in a defined population
  • Engage in cross-functional meetings to align and deliver the clinical practice with health plan strategies, ensuring a coordinated approach to managing member health
  • Provide medical guidance to colleagues to ensure that Firefly maintains or exceeds our quality performance standards identifying and supporting opportunities for improvement

Clinical Care (75%)

  • 75% of this role’s FTE will be in direct synchronous and asynchronous virtual patient care in the Firefly Care Mode
  • Conduct virtual consultations with patients to assess medical concerns, provide diagnoses, and develop personalized treatment plans
  • Oversee a limited amount of Nurse Practitioners (NP) under collaborative practice agreements and serve as the physician supervisor
  • Take home call one week at a time on a predictable schedule to address patients’ urgent health needs, frequency is prorated to clinical FTE
  • Other duties, as assigned

You’d be a good fit if you have:

  • Minimum of 3 years of primary care experience, with experience in value-based care strongly preferred.
  • MD or DO with an active, unrestricted medical license.
  • Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret clinical and claims data to inform decision-making.
  • Experience with population health management, cost containment, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to team-based care.

Our office is in Watertown, Massachusetts, but we’ve developed a robust remote working structure to give us more geographical flexibility while hiring for many positions. This role can be done largely remotely, there are several times a year when staff come together onsite for planning and team building.
