What we need:
The News Director will lead an initiative to generate unique news and insights from Datassential’s product suite, leveraging its existing research as well as proprietary analytics to publish compelling insights for customers. They will also hire and direct a globally distributed team capable of generating daily news coverage in an efficient, process-driven way. The News Director will work with Datassential’s senior leadership, as well as other stakeholders, to produce news and insights compelling for the rich variety of customer types involved in the overall food and beverage information ecosystem.
Working with Datassential’s product executive team team, draft an annual coverage plan with clear commitments and goals for increased coverage and that meets the needs of various client personas.
Identify specific opportunities to mine compelling insights from Datassential’s unique, proprietary research and analytics tools.
Collaborate closely with Datassential’s existing publication team, as well as other groups internally including Marketing, Product and Data, to ensure the efficient and timely publication of insights.
Maximize impact of news content by monitoring user engagement and adjusting daily content to capitalize on high-interest topics
Hire, train, and manage an editorial team, to include at least three writers/editors based in an offshore editorial center of excellence.
Identify and set KPIs for news publication and impact.
Collaborate with the Datassential product team on the release of enhancements designed to increase the usage and distribution of news content on the platform.
Develop subject matter expertise in the food and beverage industry and real-time awareness of industry news topics, attending conferences, discovery sessions with clients and following relevant publications.
Define requirements for an editorial CMS to support expanded publishing operations.
Leverage automation (NLG, NLP, LLMs, etc) to streamline editorial workflows.
5+ years of business journalism experience, including a minimum of two as editor in a real-time, business-to-business, subscription-based and industry-focused publishing environment.
Demonstrated history of data-driven journalism - specifically, leveraging proprietary data and IP to drive compelling editorial angles and produce daily news content.
Experience directing and managing high-performing globally distributed editorial teams.
Possess strong comfort and familiarity with process and process management.
Show a demonstrated track record of developing subject-matter expertise in new areas rapidly.
Have a history of demonstrating entrepreneurship and creativity in breaking news and delivering compelling insights to an industry-focused readership.
Be extremely comfortable collaborating in a cross-functional manner in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
Have experience in supporting a growing editorial effort with scalable processes and editorial infrastructure.
Have demonstrated experience in leveraging automation technologies (NLG, NLP, LLMs, etc) to drive efficiency and create value in editorial processes.
Some experience in editorial product management, either directly (defining business requirements for editorial product enhancement) or indirectly (closely partnering with product managers on the delivery of editorial product).

Base compensation range for this role is $105,000-$120,000. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for a performance-based bonus. Actual compensation within the pay range will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior relevant experience, and specific work location.
