Job description

The Organization

What if K-12 education were designed to help all students develop lives of meaning and purpose? Wayfinder was founded at the Stanford d.school to answer this question. Our goal is to double our impact each year for the coming years. Our vision is to become the preeminent future-readiness curriculum company in the world — leading the global movement of purpose, meaning, and belonging-based education worldwide.

What We Value

You’ll be joining a team of incredibly motivated and dedicated staff members committed to living our organization’s values. We work collaboratively across teams, and we feel and act like a purpose-driven organization. To the best of our abilities, each person’s role aligns with their own sense of purpose, which feeds into Wayfinder’s larger sense of purpose.

Read this article about our workplace culture in Conscious Company.

We value equal access, inclusive community, and belonging, and these values are represented in our product, our team, and our school partners.

Product: We develop our learning tools using human-centered design principles. We work with grade-level experts to ensure our curriculum is developmentally appropriate and engaging at all levels. Every Wayfinder lesson is supported by relevant research, prototyped in classrooms, and vetted by teachers over rounds of feedback and iteration. We use Universal Design for Learning principles to give every student an equal opportunity to succeed.

Team: Our team is composed of people from all different backgrounds and walks of life. We intentionally recruit, hire, and work with people of all identities + experiences. We focus on belonging: being connected, accepted, and valued by the people around us.

School Partners: We intentionally target a wide array of educational partners, from traditional to non-traditional, that work with a range of students from different socioeconomic groups. We’ve taught our curriculum in high-need schools in the Bronx, independent schools in Silicon Valley, and afterschool programs in San Antonio.

The Role

Wayfinder seeks an accomplished Senior Designer to lead the development of exceptional design work that furthers our reputation as a design leader in education. In this cross-functional role, you’ll drive creative across our marketing and product teams—bringing our brand to life through print collateral, digital campaigns, learning materials, and in-app experiences.

The Senior Designer runs a lean operation, seamlessly shifting between big-picture vision and hands-on execution. Whether they’re storyboarding videos, collaborating on a tradeshow booth, or refining a webpage’s type and layout, they bring clarity and momentum to every project—no matter how many are in motion. Grounded in an understanding of what motivates teachers, administrators, and students, they design with the realities of the classroom in mind, balancing cutting-edge design with clarity and usability. Above all, they lead with thoughtfulness, kindness, and zero ego.

We strongly encourage people from traditionally underrepresented populations in tech - such as women, People of Color, People with Disabilities, and LGBTQ+ people, etc - to apply!

Responsibilities

  • Develop compelling creative concepts and visual assets that drive Wayfinder’s product and marketing efforts forward.
  • Maintain visual consistency across departments and channels by owning and evolving our brand guidelines and managing a robust library of visual assets.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create high-impact materials that support lead generation and sales, including landing pages, print collateral, trade booths, promotional videos, social media content, and more.
  • Enable Marketing self‑service via a maintained library of templates (Canva, Google Slides, etc.) and clear usage guidance.
  • Oversee the design, UX, and ongoing web development of Wayfinder’s public website and collaborate with Marketing to ensure it stays up-to-date.
  • Partner with the content team to design engaging, educator-friendly resources such as student workbooks, slide decks, toolkits, and video content.
  • Contribute visual design expertise to our digital product, supporting in-app experiences as needed.
  • Ensure all visual communication is aligned with the needs of our diverse audience: students, educators, school staff, and district leaders.
  • Collaborate with the Creative Director and Chief Product Officer to refine and evolve Wayfinder’s visual identity over time.
  • Periodically engage directly with customers to inform design decisions that meet real-world needs.

How We’ll Work Together

This role reports to the Chief Product Officer, partners with the Marketing team, and collaborates daily with Content and Engineering. We use a tiered review model and asynchronous feedback to keep work moving; in our environment, not every asset is reviewed by the Senior Designer before publishing.

Essential experience

You must have:

  • 5+ years of relevant design experience, ideally in the education or EdTech space.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates a strong command of design fundamentals and creative problem-solving.
  • A proven track record of creating high-quality work across multiple formats and platforms including print, web, social, and events.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams— designers, marketers, engineers, and subject matter experts—to deliver intuitive, cohesive design solutions.
  • Comfort with design thinking and human-centered design methods.
  • Experience working directly with stakeholders and incorporating feedback into iterative design.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present ideas clearly— visually, verbally, and in writing.
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management skills in fast-paced environments.
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with a bias toward action.
  • Demonstrated success managing tiered review lanes and template-first enablement for a startup or similarly high-momentum organization.
  • Proficiency in design tools including Adobe Creative Cloud (especially InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Google Slides, Canva, Figma, and Webflow.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

Preferred experience

Bonus points for candidates with:

  • A degree in graphic design, advertising, marketing, product design, or a related discipline.
  • Prior experience designing for educational technology products or audiences.

Compensation

The base salary has a range of $85,000-$100,000 listed for this role. Compensation is dependent on location & experience.
