In this senior role, you will help drive Hillel’s movement-wide strategy to empower the next generation of Jewish leaders, deepen student belonging, and strengthen Jewish life across more than 850 campuses and 200,000 students.

Reporting to the Vice President of Student Leadership, Engagement, and Innovation, the Senior Director will lead a high-impact team responsible for designing, implementing, and scaling programs that develop thousands of student leaders each year.

Key responsibilities include overseeing flagship initiatives such as the Hillel Leadership Institute (HLI), the Leadership Passport Fellowship, Regional and National student gatherings, and the expansion of the HillelU training and development platform for students and their career development. The Senior Director will work cross-functionally across multiple Hillel International departments and the Hillel Movement to drive innovation, inspire engagement, and achieve measurable results.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Leadership

  • Shape and execute Hillel’s movement-wide strategy to develop a new generation of Jewish leaders through immersive, purpose-driven experiences.
  • Align student leadership initiatives with Hillel’s broader engagement strategy, ensuring offerings reflect student interests, field realities, and measurable outcomes.
  • Steward a movement-wide leadership portfolio that includes scalable experiences, digital learning platforms, and real-time engagement strategies.
  • Evaluate and monitor program impact through evaluations, assessments, and the identification of key performance indicators that align with organizational goals and outcomes

Portfolio Management

  • Lead the growing suite of signature leadership programs:

    • HLI: A cohort-based, campus-embedded program to train emerging student leaders with leadership tools and mindsets.
    • HillelU Student Hub: An on-demand learning center offering toolkits, virtual content, and guided leadership journeys.
    • Passport Fellowship: Immersive leadership journeys integrated with national partner convenings and microgrant innovation.
    • Regional & Movement-Wide Gatherings: Convenings that build belonging, elevate diverse voices, and strengthen student networks across the movement.
  • Evolve and expand this portfolio in collaboration with colleagues across multiple Hillel teams to ensure strategic alignment and seamless integration across programmatic pillars.

  • Manage in a matrixed capacity with other departments to steward shared programs and frameworks, ensuring they contribute meaningfully to Hillel’s overall student leadership and engagement strategy.

Team Leadership & Management

  • Supervise a team of directors and help manage a multi-million dollar budget for new and existing programs and initiatives in the Student Leadership and Engagement department
  • Lead coordinated efforts across shared service teams that support the implementation of the key initiatives and programs, such as grant administration, program evaluation, and operational implementation.
  • Foster a collaborative, purpose-driven culture that emphasizes inclusion, trust, growth, and excellence.
  • Participate in peer learning and peer engagement across teams to build relationships and foster a culture of collaboration and coordination across the organization

What You’ve Accomplished

  • At least 10+ years of leadership experience in higher education, student affairs, Jewish education, youth leadership, nonprofit management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience designing and scaling learning programs or leadership pipelines.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or higher preferred.

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • Sophisticated understanding of Jewish life and identity-building in diverse campus environments.
  • Exceptional project management and operational skills, with experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
  • Strong track record of leading diverse, remote teams and cross-functional partnerships.
  • Outstanding communication, facilitation, and coalition-building skills.

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $115,000 - 130,000
  • Fully remote for candidates based in the U.S.
  • Travel opportunities to student convenings, regional Hillels, and partner events
  • The opportunity to shape the next century of Jewish leadership, starting on campus.
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, Life, AD&D, and Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance, Flexible Spending accounts, generous vacation/sick time, and parental leave.
  • Great professional development, mentoring, and skill-building opportunities
