Job description

At Docker, we make app development easier so developers can focus on what matters. Our remote-first team spans the globe, united by a passion for innovation and great developer experiences. With over 20 million monthly users and 20 billion image pulls, Docker is the #1 tool for building, sharing, and running apps—trusted by startups and Fortune 100s alike. We’re growing fast and just getting started. Come join us for a whale of a ride!

What We Are Looking for:

We are seeking a hardworking, organized individual to join our team to fill our Payroll Analyst position. This is a remote position in line with Docker’s remote-first business model.

This is a great opportunity to assist in the evolution of Docker’s Payroll operations into the future as you will be an integral contributor to the design and upkeep of our policies and processes in the improvement and maintenance of our payroll management platform.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Assist and eventually lead in processing our US multi-state and Global payroll on a semi-monthly and monthly payroll frequency

  • Address inquiries from employees, 3rd party administrators, other departments, and various agencies concerning payroll, ensuring high customer satisfaction.

  • Own payroll month-end close activities, including preparing and reviewing payroll journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations

  • Process and confirm all personnel transactions such as new hires, terminations, leave of absence, employee benefit deductions, withholding tax, garnishments, one time payments, and other payroll related transactions in the payroll system.

  • Submit payroll changes to our international payroll providers, then review and approve global payroll for final processing.

  • Payroll related Benefits Administration including Worker’s Comp, 401K, Section 125, and other voluntary employee related benefits.

  • Provide payroll funding breakdown for the invoices submitted for our EOR payroll (Employer of Record).

  • Oversee all federal, state, and local payroll filing and compliance requirements

  • Research, understand, and implement new rules and tax regulations pertaining to payroll and equity programs to meet all statutory reporting and compliance requirements, including but not limited to, local tax registrations and compliance with payroll taxes

  • Establish strong relationships with our third-party processing provider for all non-US payroll, ensuring compliance with country and local requirements.

  • Manage, implement, document, and improve internal controls and best practices associated with the payroll processes

  • Assist with our annual financial audits

  • Drive and participate in ad-hoc business projects, as necessary

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of full-cycle payroll

  • Strong knowledge of statutory and regulatory payroll processes and internal controls

  • Strong understanding of month-end close, financial statements, and financial statement audit concepts

  • Strong understanding of accounting concepts as it relates to payroll processing and recording in the GL

  • Ability to work autonomously and as a team member, meet tight deadlines, and thrive in an agile, often ambiguous, environment under pressure

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Experience multitasking and prioritizing to meet deadlines

  • Excellent communication skills, and ability to express complex issues and recommendations to management and external contacts

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion

  • Ability to proactively seek out potential issues, address them, and drive best practices.

  • Experience using accounting systems: Netsuite, payroll (ADP and BambooHR are preferred),

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and G-Suite Applications

  • Advanced Excel skills (v-Lookup, pivot tables, etc.)

  • Experience in a fast-paced Software as a Service (SaaS) environment is a plus

  • Experience with equity based compensation administration is a plus

Please note that we welcome interest from candidates with varying levels of experience; many successful candidates do not meet every single requirement. Additionally, studies have shown that people from underrepresented groups are less likely to apply to a job unless they meet every single qualification. If you’re excited about this role, please apply and allow our recruiters to assess your application.

  • Assist in preparing the semi-monthly and monthly payroll

  • Learn Docker’s culture and methodologies.
