Job description

Founded in 2012, EasyPost is a YC unicorn whose mission is to make shipping simple for businesses, from garage startups to the Fortune 500. Shipping, now more than ever, is the backbone of the global economy, but integrating the technology-enabled operations of a modern business with the low-tech and complex shipping industry has always been a challenge. EasyPost solves this problem with the first developer-friendly REST API for shipping, and we continue to push boundaries and discover new ways to simplify shipping for all. Our team is rapidly growing, and this is the perfect time to get on board. Join us, and help build the shipping infrastructure of the future.

About the Role:

EasyPost is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Platform Engineer to join our Developer Tooling Team, with a specialized focus on database platform automation. This is a high-leverage role focused on reducing friction for developers interacting with database infrastructure — from automating schema migrations and DDL reviews to enabling safer, faster, and more auditable change pipelines. As a Senior Platform Engineer, you’ll build systems that improve the developer experience and uphold operational rigor. You’ll define the interface between Product Engineering and our database layer, ensuring that our internal platforms are secure, observable, and easy to reason about. Your work will have a direct impact on engineering velocity, system reliability, and the company’s ability to meet data governance and compliance requirements. This is an ideal opportunity for an engineer who thrives on automation, measurement, and enablement — someone who wants to remove barriers, not just build scaffolding.

What You Will Do:

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

o Design, build, and maintain internal tooling that automates and streamlines database-related workflows — including schema migration pipelines, automatic DDL evaluation, query analysis, and compliance checks.

o Establish and track metrics to understand the cost and impact of critical database workflows — e.g., time to review DDL changes, change failure rates, mean time to recovery, and developer wait times — and use that data to drive tooling improvements.

o Integrate database tooling into CI/CD pipelines, enabling safer, faster, and more predictable delivery of database changes.

o Use infrastructure-as-code practices (Terraform, Ansible) to manage and scale our Azure-based database environments with consistency and auditability.

o Partner with database engineers to codify best practices into self-service tools, reducing repetitive manual work and increasing deployment confidence.

o Collaborate with security and compliance teams to automate enforcement of data governance and retention policies.

o Build observability into your tooling — ensuring changes are visible, traceable, and easy to debug when things go wrong.

o Take ownership of reliability and usability for the systems you build, from implementation through maintenance and support.

o Mentor engineers and contribute to a culture of operational excellence, continuous improvement, and engineering empowerment.

About you:

o Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (or a related field), or equivalent professional experience.

o 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on infrastructure, developer tooling, or internal systems.

o Direct experience working with relational or distributed database technologies, especially MySQL, Cassandra, or Galera.

o Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code and config management (e.g., Terraform, Ansible), especially in Azure, AWS or GCP.

o Proficiency in programming languages such as Ruby, Python, Go, or Rust, as well as comfort with scripting and automation tasks.

o Experience building or integrating CI/CD/development pipelines, with a focus on data-aware deployments and observability.

o Demonstrated ability to quantify impact through metrics — whether it’s reducing time spent on manual processes or increasing deployment reliability.

o Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on clarity, empathy, and documentation.

About you, part two:

o Deep expertise in developer tooling and platform engineering, especially around database workflows.

o Strong focus on metrics-driven development, with the ability to set goals, gather data, and iterate based on real-world feedback.

o High standards for security, auditability, and compliance, and a track record of baking those into tooling by default.

o Initiative and autonomy in identifying pain points, prioritizing high-impact work, and driving cross-functional projects.

o Leadership in collaborative engineering environments, with the ability to influence culture, systems, and standards.

o Clear and consistent communication in a remote-first team, including documentation, technical proposals, and cross-team coordination.

$151,000 - $200,000 a year

The posted salary range represents the base compensation for this role. Actual compensation may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, skills, geographic location, and internal equity.

What We Offer:

o Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance

o Competitive compensation package and equity

o Monthly work from home stipend of $50

o Flexible work schedule and paid time off

o Collaborative culture with a supportive team

o A great place to work with unlimited growth opportunities

o The opportunity to make massive contributions at a hyper-growth company

o Make an impact on a product helping ship millions of packages per day
