About the Role
We are hiring an experienced Director of External Reporting to lead the companyโs SEC reporting and compliance functions. As the strategic leader of the External Reporting team, youโll oversee all aspects of financial reporting, ensure adherence to regulations, and collaborate with senior leadership to provide critical financial insights. This role requires extensive technical accounting expertise, strong leadership skills, and a proactive approach to process improvement.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Technical and Revenue Accounting and External Reporting, the Director of External Reporting plays a key role in promoting transparency, accountability, and regulatory compliance. You will lead a growing team responsible for preparing key financial disclosures, coordinating with external stakeholders, and partnering across departments to ensure seamless and accurate reporting.

Strategic Leadership
Oversee all SEC reporting activities, including preparation and review of quarterly and annual filings (10-Q, 10-K, 8-K), ensuring timely and compliant submissions.
Manage the SEC reporting calendar, ensuring optimal coordination across teams to meet deadlines efficiently.
Support Investor Relations by conducting tie-outs and quality assurance reviews of externally published materials, including preparation and timely filing of earnings release 8-Ks.
Serve as a critical advisor to executive leadership on financial disclosures, changes in regulatory environment, and industry trends.
Build and lead a high-performing External Reporting team, fostering a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement.
Directly manage two External Reporting staff, including performance evaluations, career development, and succession planning.
Partner with departments including Accounting, Legal, Investor Relations, and Internal Audit on cross-functional initiatives.
Compliance and Technical Expertise
- Monitor and assess the impact of new FASB and SEC accounting standards and lead the implementation process to ensure compliance.
- Maintain oversight of SOX compliance processes related to external reporting and implement improvements where gaps are identified.
- Perform financial reporting controls, including clear documentation of work/review performed.
- Coordinate the review and approval of SEC filings by multiple stakeholders, including the Disclosure Committee, Audit and Compliance Committee, external auditors, and legal teams.
- Support management in completing special projects as assigned and be a financial reporting resource for ad-hoc questions and initiatives.
Process Optimization and Innovation
- Drive operational efficiencies in the reporting processes by integrating advanced tools, automation, and best practices.
- Identify and implement strategies to streamline disclosures for greater clarity, precision, and confidence in reporting.
- Serve as the project manager for major process updates, system transitions, and reporting initiatives.
About You
Minimum Requirements
- 10+ years of accounting, external reporting, or financial leadership experience; prior Big Four/public accounting experience is required.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC requirements, and key technical accounting topics.
- Proven leadership experience in guiding high-performing teams and driving organizational success within complex frameworks.
- Deep familiarity with financial systems, compliance tools, and reporting software such as Workiva or similar platforms.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and executive leadership.
Preferred Requirements
- Previous experience in a Director-level role at a public company or similar environment.
- In-depth experience with financial controls and SOX compliance.
- Demonstrated track record of implementing automation or process improvement in reporting workflows.
